I don't know why I like him. He played for the Indians and the White Sox (the latter being far worse). As a Tigers fan, I should dislike him by default. However, for some reason, I always liked the guy.

Doubt this counts as obscure, but Fabrice Santoro(tennis). He may not have been the best, buy holy shit he was entertaining to watch. Dude was a real magician in the court.

Seriously one of the best PGs of the 80s. A guy who for several years averaged over 18 PPG 9 RPG 8 APG and 3.5 SPG... you never hear his name mentioned ever. Played for some really bad teams. Funny you mention Fat Lever, he was just let go today after being in charge of player development for the Kings since 2007. Dude was a really nice guy and a lot of people are sad to see him go.

Being a Chiefs fan, I obviously have to say The Nigerian Nightmare, Christian Okoye. Mugsy Bogues really gave me confidence as a short kid growing up. I do remember David Bruce being a frequent scorer for the Kansas City Blades (IHL developmental team for the San Jose Sharks back in the day). And that's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

Though he is an AHL legend, I assume most people still don't know who he is, but Jody Gage is one of my heroes. I grew up watching him play for the Rochester Americans.

Football/soccer player Michael Jackson.
He played for Tranmere Rovers for a few years and it was an enjoyable time when you heard Michael Jackson announced over the tannoy. Now he's a manager...ah, time flies.

Also, Todd Zeile. And Luis Alicia, who my mom had a massive crush on at the time.

No way in hell are Kenny Lofton, Willie McGee, Ruben Sierra or Todd Zeile 'obscure'.
Kenny, Ruben and Todd have over 2,000 career hits.
Willie is a former MVP and batting champ.
You want obscure Indians or Cardinals? What about Kent Bottenfield, Ron Pruitt, Rod Nichols, Scott Bailes, Mike Laga, Jeff Lahti, Danny Cox, Greg Matthews, Joe Charboneau, Josh Hancock, or the ever-popular Stubby Clapp.

For my team, the LA Kings: Ian Laperriere, Mattias Norstrom, the entirety of the 1999-2002 era Kings outside of Luc Robitaille since everybody knows who Luc is, Mike Donnelly, Corey Millen, Alexei Zhitnik, Eric Lacroix, Dmitri Khristich, Sean O'Donnell, Sandy Moger.
In the NHL in general: Darius Kasparaitis(dat name...), Steve Rucchin, Scott Young, Ron Tugnutt, Aleksey Morozov, Joe Juneau, Stu Barnes, Joel Otto.

My favorite baseball player growing up was Pirates utility outfielder RJ Reynolds. I distinctly remember hearing a report on the radio how RJ Reynolds Tobacco was being sued by pretty much everyone in existence. But the seven year old version of me missed the "tobacco company" part. All I heard was "RJ Reynolds is getting sued for being evil." I immediately ran from from my room crying. It took my mom fives to convince me that my favorite Pirate had absolutely nothing to do with the tobacco company.

Watching Joey Cora play shortstop was like watching a Little Leaguer; they were both about the same height, Joey had goofy-looking jug-ears, but played with the heart of a kid who loves the game. Always had a big smile on his face. He homered off of Nolan Ryan one time (I seem to recall he and Ozzie Guillen went back-to-back off of him, but I could be mistaken), and somebody asked about how he ran the bases, fast and hard. "I don't have a home run trot. I don't hit a lot of them."
Ron Kittle is another one whom White Sox fans love, former ironworker turned ballplayer. My sister-in-law met him at some company function and he signed 3 baseballs: one for my brother, one for our mom and one for me. She brings up 1983 (he was AL ROY for hitting 35 HR that year) and asked what he made. Ron told her matter-of-fact, "I made more working in the foundries than playing ball that year." (Ron's a cool guy, he a team ambassador.)
Kevin Hickey was a former pitcher who was discovered playing 16-inch softball for some tavern in a local Chicago park. A couple of years later, he was a starter with the team, then a reliever. Turned into a bullpen coach until his sudden death a couple of years ago.
The White Sox are loaded with working-class heroes. Ed Farmer (first Sox pitcher to record 30 saves in a season, made him a 1980 All-Star) calls the games on the radio. (As he'd say, he's "modeled a few uniforms in his day".)
***
For the Packers, when Brett Favre finally gets a statue at Lambeau Field, Doug Pederson should have one right next to him; complete in ballcap and clipboard in hand, because that is the only way you'll ever remember the back-up QB in Green Bay.
