Wow. I'm stunned. Saw him coming up through the Midwest League. This is horrible.

Just gut-wrenching news about Oscar Taveras. He was well on his way to being a solid outfielder and a core to the Cardinals' future. But more than anything, it's just tragic to read about a life cut short like that.

I'm sick to my stomach with the news of Tavares and his girlfriend. He was going to be the future of that team. I don't think I ever heard one scout NOT talk him up.
As a Mets fan, my condolences to the family and to all the Cards fans.

RIP Oscar Taveras So much talent that could be big things taken us for too soon. Just stunned when I saw the news. Just heard them on the World Series talking about it and wow the mood changed big time in this game. My heart goes out to his family and the teammates.

I'm dumbstruck right now. I am watching the PPV, and clicked on MLB.com to see the score of the game to see this news of Taveras. Obviously all tragedies like this are horrible, but when it happens to one of your guys it feels double tragic. He will go on the lists of what ifs forever, which is so sad. Of course as a Cardinals fan losing in the LCS this year now has such a consequence because now everyone will say if they had just been able to pull out wins vs the Giants, he's playing in St.Louis tonight far away from the Domincan. RIP Oscar.

No idea who the guy is, just saw a vague mention of it in the Hell in a Cell thread and looked out of curiosity, but wow, yeah, that sucks.

The Giants are (probably) going to win the World Series predominantly because they've made the heretofore unstoppable Royals bullpen look like mere mortals, plating eight runs off the pen to turn game four into a rout, and beating up Kelvin Herrera and Wade Davis to give Madison Bumgarner some breathing room tonight.

I've been busy partying all weekend and finally have a chance to post. Last night's game was a must win for the Giants and they won it in convincing fashion. Tonight's game was must win for KC and they couldn't do anything against Madison. Dude's been untouchable this post season.
My original prediction of Giants in 6 is coming to fruition.

I just had a wave of emotions come over me after thinking about Oscar Taveras and I had to express my feelings.
Of course I was stunned when hearing about Oscar's passing, and I already made a post earlier in the thread saying that. But I was not emotional until I teared up watching MLB network and seeing the dates 1992-2014. Of course that is too young for anyone to die, but that really struck me because of the fact that I became a die-hard Cardinals fan when I was 8 years old in 1990, 2 years BEFORE Oscar was even born. I became a Cardinals fan because my dad was a Cardinals fan and like so many people he was a Cardinals fan because he grew up in Memphis and KMOX radio reached all over the country in 1950's broadcasting games.
Baseball was always the one thing that my dad and I had in common and as passionate as I was about Cardinals, he was even more so. I remember in 2002 when Darryl Kile passed, he cried, and he was not one to cry much. Of course Darryl's passing was the first thing that came to my mind tonight when I heard this news.
I lost my dad in 2009, it was during the baseball season, in fact one of the last things he did was watch a Cardinals/Dodgers game. My mom says he wanted to call and tell me about it since I didn't have cable at the time, but since the game was on the west coast, it ended late and she said it would probably be too late to call. He died of a sudden heart attack the next day. Needless to say, I couldn't really enjoy any games the rest of that season without thinking of him. Time passes and wounds heal, and I've come to grips with his passing to where I think only of the good times and not sadness of not having him around anymore. But the emotions that we put in watching games together came flowing back when I saw that date. Those people that think that sports are "silly" and "just a game," don't understand the bonds and the emotions that you have with your team, and how baseball, more than any other sport, connects the generations. Now I didn't know Oscar personally, but as a Cardinal fan of 25 seasons, he was one of my guys, therefore part of my family in a way, I mean he wore the same hat that 8 year old me wore in the backyard with my dad playing catch, and that means the world to me. So for that, he will always have some small place in my heart.

Interesting dilemma now for the Cubs - do we pay off Rick Renteria and go for Joe Maddon, or do we keep faith in Renteria to advance us? Personally, as good a job as Renteria did this year, when an experienced manager who's been to the World Series and kept such a small market team competitive for years becomes available, you take him. Maddon with Theo Epstein's backing and all the talent coming through, it may not be long until the Cubs become a National League force.

No. I prefer he just hang out in the Dodgers dugout staring at Mattingly inches away all season.
