The Devils have had an annual "retro night" at Prudential Center the past handful of years, where they've brought back the goal horn from the old Meadowlands arena, brought back the old PA announcer, they've played almost all 80s tunes in between ice time, and changed the HD scoreboard to a display that looked more like the old arena, too. Fans have a blast with it.
Don't know how well that would work on modern TV in terms of stripping away graphics and what have you, but I WOULD appreciate certain broadcasts scaling back stuff they put on screen. I enjoy certain aspects of what you get to see, but it becomes a bombardment of useless information sometimes.
Other note: I know the league networks play retro games, but dear God, why doesn't MLB or NHL Network do it more often? There's so many dead spots on their broadcast schedules in the off-season that could be filled by vintage games that aren't, say, this past year's playoffs. Why not showcase some more stuff from the early days of color TV or whatever?
