With all the hype around these forums surrounding Chikara, I thought I'd give them a go about a month or so back. I watched a show and was more or less underwhelmed. But I thought it might just be one show that I didn't enjoy. I didn't like the first ROH show I watched, so I decided I'd give it a second chance.
I did that tonight, and yet again, couldn't get in to it. Chikara seems like an enjoyable promotion, and I see why so many here like it. But without even being able to put my finger on why exactly, I'm just not digging it.
ROH is my favorite promotion, I really enjoy CZW now, I like what I've seen of PWG, but Chikara just isn't clicking with me.
What are some promotions you gave a try that you heard a great deal of praise for and either just couldn't get in to it or flat out didn't like it?

SHIMMER. My girl goes on and on and on about it, and Prazak pimps it CONSTANTLY (I would hope) but it's just not my cup of tea.

I always wanna see a promotion from it's infancy to see how they develop, but now ROH has had too many shows. I'm going to start buying CHIKARA shows from the begining and get caught up w/that I think. Personally, I've always loved a heavy dose of comedy in wrestling. I have 5 or 6 CHIKARA shows downloaded and I love it so far so I'm gonna finally give them my money and buy some shows.

Current AAA. Before the 20th century ended, AAA was decent.

Chikara have never appealed to me so I never bought any but it gets a lot of hype on these boards so I'm gonna buy a show & give it a try, any suggestions?

Silverking: Yeah I agree :/...After the original owner died, the promotion started to suck HARD.

I suppose that's a good enough place to start. And, in answer to the initial post, CZW doesn't really appeal to me. I'm not entirely sure why, considering I'm a big fan of plenty of guys that work/worked there.

ROH.
Also, I was never a big WCW fan and missed out on damn near every part of the NWO. I've only seen videos and clips over the years.

I've never been to high on CHIKARA either. Not to say I can't see why their fan base loves the product, it's just never appealed to me. They do have some very good talent and stuff of that nature, I'd pass.

Thankfully, he and Lobo are done for now.

WCW. The only parts I really enjoyed were occasional Rey/Kidman vs Raven/Saturn matches.

I loved pre-nWo WCW, but during nWo I didn't care too much for it

I'm not saying anyone here isn't making a valid point, but I, personally, am of the mind that I can't dislike a promotion for non-identifiable reasons.
For example, I can't really watch WWE, but I have reasons for that pertaining to the product. Doesn't mean I can't understand why some people would enjoy it, but, for me, there are definable, visible reasons for my apathy towards/dislike of the product.
That said, since ROH is the only company I regularly buy complete shows from, and TNA is the only company from which I watch PPV's with any regularity, I'm not really qualified to speak on most other products as a whole, as I only get to see the bits and pieces I can find online.
Hopefully, I'm going to start building a mini-NOAH collection some time soon.
