Lies. That was the best documentary ever. The WWE is just covering up that the Body took out Vince McMahon after the Montreal Screwjob and he has been replaced with Rod McMahon. Black helicopters, conspiracies, theories.

Yeah, the WCW one wasn't great. I get that ECW has more of a devoted following in some ways, at least as far as names go, but that doesn't mean to half ass it, especially when it isn't like WCW guys are incredibly difficult to get ahold of for interviews. No one is expecting you to get Ted Turner in, but come on. I remember a list leaked of guys Vince approached about for interviews for the WCW documentary and said no. Bischoff, Goldberg, Hogan, Nash, Sting (though I think them and Bischoff may have been in TNA at this point), Ted Turner, Tony Schiavone, and I think there were a few others as well. Goldberg was in it though. Sting was in TNA at that point, because I remember thinking how much better it could have been if they waited until Sting was available. We've heard everything that Flair and Bischoff have to say a zillion times, but not the Stinger.

Bloodstained Memoirs. I thought I found a steal when I finally saw this in stores......what an awful piece of shit. Oh, good call. I somehow managed to block that awful film from memory.

No one is expecting you to get Ted Turner in, but come on. ECW has a larger fanbase in death than it ever had in life because the WWE hyped the heck out of it. As a fan of the original ECW dating back to 1995, I disagree with your statement. ECW had a large, devoted fanbase because Heyman's product was very different than the WWF's and WCW's. If you didn't follow ECW at the time, there's no way you can grasp how different ECW felt from the 'big two' and how differently its fans responded to the promotion. The WWF/WWE didn't really do much to 'hype the heck' out of ECW aside from acknowledging that it existed. When the InVasion Angle played out, the WWF made ECW and WCW guys out to be jobbers who were all bark, no bite (The only exception was RVD, and that's only because mainstream wrestling audiences were blown away by how many high-risk maneuvers he would regularly pull off as part of his standard moveset). ECW didn't get much hype from the WWF until plans had been set to do the first One Night Stand PPV, which I believe was done in response to the resounding success that The Rise and Fall of ECW turned out to be.

McMahon, just the blatant way they had of rewriting history, for example: when Vince bought the Georgia territory from the Briscoes, the show was so good on TBS that Ted Turner wanted to buy a piece of the company, Vince said no, and Turner had Ole Anderson's Georgia championship wrestling counter program with Vince, Mcmahon then ripped the contract he had with TBS in front of Turner, thereby becoming enemies....there was no mention of Black Saturday and how fans expected nwa quality matches and instead got Big John Studd bear hugging Bobo Brazil for 5 minutes, and how the ratings collaped and Turner had no choice but giving Ole the time slot. Also the xfl was a good idea damnit!

There was one a few years back that I reviewed on a site I used to work for, title was something like "101 Reasons Not to Be a Pro Wrestler" - the doc itself, mostly just interviews - was fine but the camera work made it unwatchable. I thought that was an alright doc. I don't know what you mean by the camera work: To me, the biggest problem with the doc is that a lot of the interviews were done in noisy locations (conventions/trade shows), which made it difficult to understand what some wrestlers were saying. To me, the best part of the documentary is when wrestlers discuss the prospect of a union for wrestlers, and when the topic of wrestling while injured is highlighted when Vampiro is instructed to give New Jack a running powerbomb, despite having a broken ankle. Another highlight is the Gypsy Joe vs New Jack match, which illustrates unprofessionalism at its finest. Gypsy Joe refused to sell for New Jack, which gradually drove him mad - to the point where he unleashed a legit beat down on the world's oldest wrestler.

In regards to camerawork, I'm talking about how they didn't take the natural lighting around them into account, and some of the interviewees you can barely see because of how dark they're rendered by it. Otherwise, it was okay.

I love how their 'exclusive' with Mick Foley is some chode with a handicam that's standing left of the autograph booth and lobbing questions in the vague hope that Foley will lob back.

That "secrets of pro wrestling" special that somehow got Harley Race involved. There was one a few years back that I reviewed on a site I used to work for, title was something like "101 Reasons Not to Be a Pro Wrestler" - the doc itself, mostly just interviews - was fine but the camera work made it unwatchable. Also, Faded Glory, one of the first (made sometime during the late 90s) on the Von Erichs. Biggest piece of fluff ever. I'm kind of curious about that Faded Glory one you mentioned. I haven't seen it. I take it they take Fritz's word as gospel and talk abut things like Mike Von Erich getting more letters sent to him in the hospital than were sent when JFK got shot?

The Backyard documentary, I know people liked it but I spent most of my time laughing my ass off (The two brothers feuding) or rubbing my forehead (Everything else). Especially when one of the brothers chokeslammed his mom, I laughed for about a solid two minutes. What's this ones full name? I might have to track it down.

I hated the Orton documentary WWE put out a couple of years ago. First off, it can't decide if it wants to be real or in kayfabe. They allude to his issues outside of the ring and issues with management and creative. But they present him losing a match as if he really lost it. Just pick one (preferably the former). Worse yet, they constantly shift to his current storyline and back to his past and do not even keep the past in chronological order. It is very confusing to follow and does not establish any narrative. And this may be in retrospect, but his relationship with his wife just comes off as weird when presented perfectly now knowing what has happened since.

Bobby Heenan. They really should have made it back in 2005 or something, when they could have actually gotten interviews from him.

I remember someone from that Bloodstained Memoirs crew pretending to just be a regular poster and shilling the hell out of it. I also remember him flaming anyone who hated it.

Anyways, yeah for as much potential as a documentary featuring Muta, Christian, Jericho, etc. could be that documentary was rubbish.
