"This is the only man many think can do anything against Mike Tyson."
90 seconds later...

The look of fear

It was utterly hilarious. I loved Mike Tyson's entrance theme, which was basically just scary noise. Spinks was done for immediately.

Spinks should have trained with Apollo to get the Eye of the Tiger.
Tyson in the 80s was scary good, most of his opponents were beaten before ever going to the ring just out of fear. It's a shame that Cus died and Mike got mixed up with Don King, he could have gone down as the best ever if he stayed focused on boxing.

Man, can you imagine being the guy in the corner opposite him? There's truly never been anyone quite like Tyson during that period.

Man I miss boxing being a thing. As a kid going to friends houses who had dads that would order the fights or had the premium cable.

When Cus D'Amato wasn't around to handle Tyson anymore, it was only a matter of time before it all went to hell.

What got to me was Mohammed Ali's appearance. This was more then 25 years ago and he already looked in rough shape.
Edit: After the Spinks fight I decided to check out the Tyson-Larry Holmes fight. That's the first time I ever saw someone lose due to a three knockdown TKO outside of the Punch-Out video game.

Here's a classic that reminds you of the time when George Foreman was closer to Clubber Lang than lovable grill-man George Foreman

Those were the days. Tyson fights and my dad cursing at the tv because the fights would be over so fast. I'd play with my Transfomers or GI Joes or both until the main event.
How many times did I hear, "That's the last time I'm ordering this shit!"

After a certain point, Tyson also had mystique on his side. That's an intangible part of the mental game that can be an absolutely huge advantage.

The best part of the fight is omitted from that video: Spinks' entrance song.
Nothing says BAMF like Michael McDonald.

He made 13 million dollars to get knocked out in seconds. That's not a bad deal actually. If I was fighting for that much money, I'd just take my lumps, go home and count my money.

Also Spinks was outmatched on the feet. He should have shot for the takedown and worked a sub.

Spinks should have had his corner load up his glove with water, and when he hits Tyson "BAM!" Tyson's out, and Spinks wins.

Ah, the days of Tyson fights on HBO. Every time, my dad would wait until the fight was about to start to either use the bathroom or get another beer. So, my brother and our friend would start yelling at the TV "HE'S DOWN!", to which my dad would run out and start yelling "WHAT THE HELL?" Then we'd laugh at him, he fell for it every time.

Ah, Tyson fights are the best. I remember when I was a kid and first getting into boxing, my dad would always show me Tyson's old fights as an example of good ol' fashioned ass kicking. And the first fight I saw live was Tyson v Holyfield at the ripe old age of three.
My mum wasn't very happy when she heard my dad had me sitting on his knee was he watched Holyfield lose his ear!

I had just gotten a Sports Illustrated subscription prior to this fight and all I remember is the analysts talking up Spinks height and how Tyson would leave his feet occasionally against taller opponents. They harped on that being the best shot for Spinks to knock him out, like it was this magical moment he had to wait for.
As others here said, 90 seconds later its all over! And damn, I never noticed the look of sheer terror on his face!
