Guys, I just read an article that stated: Rogers will be the exclusive distribution partner of all WWE pay-per-view events throughout Canada and will sponsor an application to the CRTC to bring the popular WWE Network to Canada. Starting August 12, a preview of WWE Network content, including live WWE pay-per-view events, groundbreaking original series, live in-ring action, reality shows and a video-on-demand library, will be available on a subscription basis on Rogers Channel 512. Rogers will offer this WWE Network content preview subscription to all cable, satellite and IPTV providers across Canada. So, this is basically a PREVIEW of the WWE Network right now.

Wow, this is worse than the selection that the 360 had when they fixed the app, except that's the only way to watch the Network in Canada.

Here's the thing: 1) As a free preview, it's still shit. It's about 40 hours worth of content. It's not even equivalent content compared to the U.S. network, it's an on-demand 'net pak'. We're not getting WWE network programming when it airs on the U.S. network concurrently on our net pak. And yeah, we get Summerslam when it airs, but that's a drop in the bucket. It's not free, it's $11.99/month.

We're not getting WWE network programming when it airs on the U.S. network concurrently on our net pak. And yeah, we get Summerslam when it airs, but that's a drop in the bucket. 2) Right now, you can only access this shitty free preview if you're with Rogers. Many people in Canada are not with Rogers because Rogers simply doesn't have a presence in those parts of the country. So it's not a matter of people simply not choosing to be with Rogers. Right now, people in Southern Ontario are really the only ones who benefit from this, if, again, you think 40 hours of content is actually a benefit. 3) WWE should have had the deal ironed out with Rogers and the other Canadian telecom companies to have who gets what and how much to they get from what sorted out before the network went international in the first place. As it stands, Canada is getting the shittiest version of the network right now. 4) WWE should have sorted out with Rogers what it would take to push the CRTC to approve the 'over the top' version of the network years ago, as in, when WWE first announced that they were going to do a network in the first place. 5) At any rate, there is no guarantee that the CRTC will actually approve the network. For example, could the network pass Canadian content regulations? Chances are it wouldn't. That could be one of a hundred reasons why the CRTC could nix the network in Canada. There is no guarantee that the 'over the top' version will ever come to Canada. As such, Canadian wrestling fans are getting screwed over because of this whole network fiasco. Again. And it seems like WWE decided that taking Rogers' nut of money is more short-term than actually pleasing Canadian wrestling fans coast to coast with equal access, period, and with roughly equivalent network programming content that the U.S. network fans already have. You get to play pretty fast and loose with those CRTC rules. So long as a Canadian is somehow present, it's Canadian content. It's how CBC aired Jeopardy! and the Simpsons for so long, despite their claim of 100% Canadian content. Trebeck is Canadian, it counts, a few of the Simpsons writers are Canadian, plus Matt's dad was from Saskatchewan, that's Canadian. Still, until this gets fixed, guess I won't be getting it, Rogers isn't even an option for me if I wanted it.

Considering it would probably take all of 10 minutes of googling to find a work-around, I'm surprised any subscription service would do this.

So after seeing the commercial during Raw that the WWE Network Pak is now available via all cable providers this past Monday, I decided to find out if this was true. I called my cable provider and asked if whether or not a deal with Rogers had been sorted. As of now, no deal is in place (still). Is this the same case for any other Canadians who also aren't with Rogers? By the time we get our because it's Canada we can charge more, then everyone upcharging to make money after licensing from Rogers, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Network in the $25-40 range.

Which leads me to ask, what cable providers are actually carrying it?

It's going to be extremely puzzling if Vince & Co don't go into great detail on what their long-term agreement with Rogers entailed financially. Because it seems as though they're happy as pigs in shit while the entire Canadian fan base is collectively scratching their heads.

Probably "Rogers gave us dumptrucks of money for exclusivity rights, which is more than we would have gotten from our Canadian fanbase or something who go bizarro on us all the time anyway. We're still pissed about the wave occurring during the DiBiase/Roberts match at Wrestlemania 6." I just assume it's more of the media's "Ontario is Canada" attitude.

No Free WWE Network in Canada, because, Canada.
At least they didn't raise the price in celebration.

It's difficult in Canada as someone else distributes it. They'd effectively command them to make no money for a month, which would be a hard sell. I wonder if the arse-about-face way it was done in Canada will be stuck out or whether the low take-up of the product will make WWE attempt to buy themselves out of the agreement.

So, I don't know exactly when it happened, but WWE is now referring to it as "WWE Network" in Canada. Since its launch, it was always called "The Best of the WWE Network" because of it's limited on demand offering/extremely limited availability. I wonder if the name change means it will begin to offer more or if it will be offered to more providers.
I'm probably just grasping at straws.

Now, whether or not that happens and when it is actually available on more than just Rogers is anyone's guess.

Eastlink launches WWE Network HD and breaks 200 HD milestoneHALIFAX, Dec. 17, 2014 /CNW/ - With today's addition of the World Wrestling Entertainment Network (WWE) in HD, Eastlink becomes one of only two providers in Canada to carry this wildly popular channel.
