It's interesting that, of the top 10, all of the teams that played either lost or showed that they were vulnerable, with the exception of A&M who still hasn't had much competition yet (sorry, but I don't see South Carolina yet). Baylor, Notre Dame, and Ole Miss haven't really hit the challenging parts of their schedule yet either (although I would give credit to Ole Miss, who probably scheduled Boise State back when Boise State meant something).
It's been a while since I could legitimately think that college football was truly wide open.

As far as A&M not being tested yet, I must agree. The South Carolina game was still a hell of a way to start the season. It would be nice if they would keep winning(S.Carolina). But the first real test comes this week in GerryWorld. I hate that their OOC schedule has been so meager. But, the team is tuned up solid. Kenny Hill will either show that they are for real or they will be exposed. If they win just before the tough part of the SEC West sched, they will be far more ready for that run. I am not concerned about the Alabama game at the moment(not because they are weak) this is due to Ole Miss coming the week before. That has gotten to be a rather good series since A&M joined the SEC and the Rebels have everything to gain by beating them.

It's not really A&M's fault that the SEC East is paper this year, but I have to imagine that, as these playoffs go on, the notion of scheduling all cupcakes for OOC is going to fall by the wayside. It probably won't happen for a few years just due to logistics, but eventually teams will want to hedge their bets.

Yeah, I had figured it would have happened en masse as soon as the phase in was announced for the playoff a few years ago. Teams had time to schedule tougher opponents. I'd even give partial credit if they did a soft version of power five schools with one jabroni. For instance if A&M scheduled: Week1 Wakeforest Week 2 Washington State Week 3 Rice Week 4 SEC East opponent Follow that with the actual SEC west schedule and top it off with a late October game vs S. Carolina their permanent cross divisional rival and I'd call that good.

Carolina their permanent cross divisional rival and I'd call that good. I didn't expect anything en masse just because most of these games are set years in advance, and the logistics behind it makes it hard. Some schools might have a spot that opens and allows for it, but in a lot of cases, it'll be a few years before the AD's can really make significant changes, and then you have to wrangle about with home field, neutral site, etc., because for some reason most schools don't want to do home-and-home anymore. And it's especially hard because you might schedule someone who was good, but then they drop off big (Boise State, f.ex.) It's just one of hte poblems you have when schools schedule their own opponents. Within the next five years, I think every contending school should have at least one non-conference game against a power five school that you at least expect to be decent. You'll never remove the cupcakes completely, but there are enough schools and enough non-conference games that most schools should be able to pull something off. But in this early stage, I'd try not to be too harsh about it. I do think the days of trusting that your conference schedule is good enough are slowly going to end though, thankfully.

Red, I agree. Even the mighty SEC schedule reputation will not be safe but will rather be suspect. The PAC 12 is and has been creeping up on them and even the Big XII can make a case. Texas will be back. When they do come back all the way, OU and Baylor will still be tough. I'll give OU and Texas this, they do tend to schedule wrong OOC. Hell if Texas had won the two OOC games they dropped, they'd be in the top fifteen maybe the top ten. Now, the B1G . I just don't know what to make of it. The schools still get top tier recruits but somehow they hav'nt done squat the last few years and so far this season they are giving themselves a bad name. If I were the ACC, I'd jump on the opportunity and schedule the hell out of B1G schools while they are down. Then start scheduling PAC teams to steal more thunder. Its a find and replace function applied to college football. The ACC has the numbers and the TV spread. If they take MSG in basketball and begin an assault on the B1G in football, they could over take them and become a football conference on par with the PAC, SEC and Big XII

An NFL scout, when asked if he would drop FSU redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston down his team's board if it was his decision, said this isn't a "drop him down draft boards" issue, but rather "should he be on our draft board" issue.

Oh come on now, he'll certainly be on the draft board. This is just click baiting from the scout.

It really depends on what else comes out, one has to figure that teams are going to be way more apprehensive about questionable players this year and a QB is the last position that you want to draft a head case at. All of that said, of course someone will probably take him.

Marcus Vick dropped off draft boards altogether due to his behavior He also got suspended for an entire season at Va Tech, got reinstated, stomped on a defenseless player and then kicked off the team for good. Marcus also didn't have the talent Jameis does.

With the crap that's going on in the NFL right now, it really wouldn't surprise me if no one wants to mess with Winston due to the league wanting to clean up its image. I can almost assure you he'll be into trouble constantly if/when he joins the NFL.

Jameis will come out and become the first openly dumbass player to be drafted.
