From what I remember it's supposed to be honoring and representative of peers, friends, or relatives who have died.
It's cultural appropriation as I'm pretty sure that's not what's going on in that shoot.

Strangely, I have yet to see anything mainstream really use the makeup or mask the way I thought it was supposed to be used.
Usually it's just used as something that looks cool, completely ripped from any context.
So...yeah...none of that in your photo shoots, WWE.

Little things like that add up and make people think you're full of shit whenever getting the Latin@ audience comes up.

To be fair, they're not exactly the only ones. I've counted about 10 girls on my Facebook alone going out like that. Seems to be one of the standard "lazy" Halloween costumes.
