Even though it serves little to no purpose, It will still be sad to see it go, some of the best memories of my early life were spent there, Comerica Park is great and all but it just doesn't measure up.

It's where Tiger Woods holds his golf clinics

I thought it might have something to do with sports.

So bummed about this... but they had to do something with it. It was either declare it a historical site (which, if they were going to do, they would've done 5 years ago) or tear it down. Can't say I blame the city, but if I had my way, the Tigers would still be at Tiger Stadium.

Couldn't they use it for pep rallies or college football or some other crap nobody cares about? Seems a shame just to demolish it.

its mostly used for kids activities and bar fly activities such as drunken football-baseball, beyond that not much else. I may not like it but I understand why the stadium is going but I refuse to accept that joe louis arena has outlived its usefulness

Hell, the Joe's only about 25 years old... if that gets torn down that's just pathetic. Incidentally, isn't the Silverdome gonna be torn down soon?
That's pretty amazing that in 5 years, I'll be 25 years old, and if they tear down the Silverdome and the Joe, no professional stadiums that were used when I was born will still be standing.

Why not just renovate these old stadiums? I mean, they have character and history and meaning to the local town urchins. A stadiums soul is intertwined into the fabric of the community. I dont see why they dont just spruce them up a bit instead of knocking them down to build a souless bowl elsewhere.

oh god in 5 years I'll be almost 30, *shudder* the joe was/is awesome many good nights were spent watching the wings own somebody and saw some great shows and ppvs (with the exception of the ss when show won the strap and cried like a baby) I can't imagine the wings playing anywhere else, I've heard speculation that the silverdome was going, since monster jam isn't there anymore and I don't think they hold to many high school finals games there the silverdome will probably be gone within the next 2 years, and that would be a shame as well

I remember when DTE center used to be pine knob, I can't complain to much because I get free tickets to all the concerts there.

I'll be bummed when they tear down the 'Dome due to so many memories of watching Barry Sanders (IMO, okay biased opinion, the best running back in NFL history) tear up the artificial turf... plus I was fortunate enough to play 4 high school games there (including 2 state championship games). A LITTLE ASIDE: Before our opening game at the Silverdome my Junior year, we were allowed to practice for a week at the 'Dome to get used to the conditions. Anyway, there is definately nothing as cool as walking through that tunnel for the first time and being on the field, but as soon as I did that I ran to the middle of the field so I could say that I stood on the spot where Hogan slammed the Giant 15 and 1/2 years before.

I'll have to try to get there before they tear it down, for one last visit. I'll miss it, it had an awsome atmosphere at games.

It was definately the best to walk through those dark tunnels and then finally get to the field... the atmosphere at Comerica Park is just not nearly as cool.
On the postive side, the Tigers beat the Cubs 5-3. Marcus Thames rules!
