Depression and coping

I’ve touched on this topic on my twitter before, but only when I’ve felt ranty… but now I want to come here and try to go more indepth about it. I’d had wanted to do this on camera, but my webcam seems to have gone MIA.

For several years now, I’ve been overcome by depression and anxiety. There are most likely several reasons; I was bullied basically my entire school life. I did well academically for the first few years despite this, but it got worse, and then my grades began to slip. The less said about 7th and 8th grade, the better. Those were absolutely the worst. Then high school happened. Apart from having a few wonderful instructors, it was largely a very toxic environment at a terrible school.

Then adulthood began to happen and suddenly all this negativity that was building up slowly began to erupt. And fast-forward several years to now, I’m the worst I’ve ever been mentally. I have suicidal thoughts that I wish I never got, many days I feel so terrible that I just don’t feel like doing anything at all. Even forcing myself is a struggle. I have some good days but they are sadly very few and far between.

I have a way of coping though. The best way I can explain it is basically, temporary voluntary mental regression. There are a lot of misconceptions about this, mainly due to terrible representation in media etc. But for me it’s a way of dealing with life without doing something I would regret. Some think it’s a fun thing for me; while watching cartoons or whatever is fun, no doubt, it’s also extremely soothing. It provides great euphoria.

Many still sadly do not understand mental illness. I hope this gives transparency about my so-called “little side”. If you did read this, thanks. Stay awesome, everyone.
