Right now, I have what my friends and I call a neck-beard. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to shaving, so I usually let it grow out about a week too long and then shave it completely off.
And it grows in nicely, except for in that crack right above my lips and directly under my nose. I don't know why, but it doesn't grow there and that pisses me off.

Goatees can be pretty cool, provided it actually suits the guy. Im not a fan of moustaches though.

I have a full beard, I am going for the Sigmund Freud therapeutic look, and I think it suits me (except for making me look much older when I already look quite old for my age). I have switched to a goatee now and then, but I sometimes think I look to Steve-Austin-like and thuggish with a goatee. I do think even a full beard needs to be "shaped," i.e., it should not grow down your neck nor up to your eyelashes.

I haven't shaved in a while, so I got the ultra scruffy look going...
But yeah, it was a natural progression for me...
8th Grade - Mustache, Chin fuzz 9th Grade - Mustache, Chin hair, Long (Rock Style) sideburns 10th Grade - Chin hair, Long (Rock Style) sideburns 11th Grade - Chinstrap, Batista Line
I've kept some form of the Chinstrap/Batista Line combo for a while... For halloween I did pull a Hellboy with massive Chops... I like the chinstrap though...

i had a goatee for years. I got rid of it last May and my fiance noted that I became "instantly hotter". When I was standing there clean shaven, first time she saw me that way, she looked at me like she was a lion about to pounce on a piece of meat. It was awesome.

I've had various degrees of facial hair for years, from full-on Allman Brothers - Zakk Wylde scumbag beards when I had long hair, then had a goat for several years after I cut my hair...Few weeks ago I shaved off my goat and left nothing but a Hitler mustache, just for fun.
Now THAT gets some strange looks in the grocery store.

Up until last November, I was clean shaven. While on a relief trip to Gulfport, MS to rebuild post-Katrina, I grew a goatee.
I came home w/it, the ladies I work with like it (as have other chicks closer to my age), and I've kept it since.
