What exactly is a "white demographic"? The white demographic is the one the entire industry was created on, to the point where it's pretty much the default protagonist/leader of most major tv shows, while members of any other groups may get a secondary character role. That's the reason the black kid being named Token in South Park is so damn funny. That's how it it's been for so long, a mainly white cast of characters where a black person comes in to fill whatever jokes they need. TV has been doing better to an extent, and there's nothing wrong with white protagonists or mainly white casts, Caucasian is the majority in the country after all, but the cliche of there not being a WET is weak because it implies that that's not already there when it consists of the vast majority of entertainment. A sitcom with a predominantly black cast gets the "black sitcom" label, whereas a sitcom with a white cast is just a sitcom. There are countless. You just don't tend to think about these things, but they're still present. If there was a White Entertainment Television network, what shows would they air? What reruns? What music? It'd be the sames types of things you see on any number of networks. Unless it was a supremacist-run network, a "White Entertainment Television" network wouldn't be any different from any number of networks already. It'd just be another Spike or FX or CMT. It's also why there doesn't need to be a white history month or a white fraternity or a white college, those are the defaults in life, and the alternatives were created not because of anti-white racism, but because minorities don't tend to get the opportunities.

Anyone ever notice how Kenan and Kel is kinda racist? All the black characters seem dumb as hell and all the white characters are nerds.
What? I'm just sayin'.

Good video. Now, if there was a corresponding video for men's rights activists, that'd be great. They should add a video focusing on "Well why we can't have a straight pride parade?!" to complete this trifecta.

That's what they're saying though. If you have a show with a mainly black cast, it suddenly becomes a 'black' movie; whereas something like Friends isn't seen as a 'white' show. I.E. white people don't have to worry about representation at all, we're all over the place in shows and movies. I think James Baldwin put it best when he said "being white means never having to think about it". In mainstream media, white is the default. It's the reason you can have a movie that takes place entirely in the Middle East with an entirely white cast (see, Noah, The Ten Commandments), no one will bat an eye. Contrast that with something like The Hunger Games, where you had someone of color actually cast as someone of color, and because the psychological default is white, you had people actually saying they were less sympathetic about her death because she wasn't white. There is no "White Entertainment Television" for the same reason there is no "White History Month": all of the one's that haven't been designated otherwise are by default.

I heard there was a men's rights advocacy convention happening during straight pride week. It all takes place during white history month.

You guys also have to keep in mind that they are making fun of a specific type of racism, not all racism in general. Do you expect them to mention every single type of racism? It's like getting upset at a video joking about pepsi because they didn't mention every other type of soda. What kind of Monster makes fun of Pepsi?

They really needed to work in the "I'm not racist, I have a black friend!" gag in there somewhere.

There's so many things that keep whites and blacks from becoming friends and putting aside the racism. Anyone who says the term "Uncle Tom" needs to have the living shit beaten out of them. They are just as big a problem as the hate filled white racists. If a black guy has white friends, get off his back and leave him alone. It doesn't mean he wants to be chained up and enslaved again, nor does it mean his white friends want to do such to him. IMO, people who like to say "Uncle Tom" towards blacks with white friends can f*** off.

I'm not amending anything with any quickness. I'm attracted to brunette white girls and also black women. The fact that most other women don't make me horny isn't racist. It's like saying I'm homophobic because I'm not attracted to men. Come on, man. That comparison doesn't even make sense. I gave you that list of different looking black women to kinda show you the point that even under a moniker people swear is limiting, there's a wide range of looks that come with it. But I ain't even mad you missed that.... You didn't say "most other women." You said "Asian women." You are in fact amending your statement. ...and to not be drawn into a multi-page argument, I'll take it! When I initially did so as a basis of comparison with the video. But it's cool man, I see or feel no need to have to try to explain it further. If the concept of having a "type" doesn't make sense to you that's fine. If you want to think of me as a a racist person you are going to do so regardless, which is why you continue to pick apart my words to suit your beliefs about me. As long as I know how I truly feel, I guess that's what really matters.

My argument isn't that there should be a WET, it's that there shouldn't be a BET. Having a tv network called Black Entertainment Television is the exact same thing as having a network called White Entertainment Television. However, there would be an uproar over it, just like there has been in this thread. Both are equally racist, it's a double standard.

BET's not even the only channel aimed at a black demographic anymore. Off the top of my head I can think of OWN, TVOne, Centric, and Aspire.

I wasn't arguing that you wanted a WET, I'm saying that a WET is what almost every other network is already. It's just easy to overlook it because that's the way it's always been, so most people don't realize that being a white young male makes you the audience that networks want the most. The WET cliche is a bad argument, because it ignores that other stations air the same type of programming that would air on any white entertainment network, but these stations aren't airing the type of shows that air on BET (or Univision for that matter). The only reason anyone sees BET as problematic is because of it's name, when in reality it's just a niche network. If it was removed, it'd just remove even more of the limited opportunities that black entertainers have on television, because networks aren't airing those shows elsewhere. There's a lot to criticize with BET and it's portrayal of black people, but it's mere existence isn't what's wrong. People to take that stance are literally just complaining that one network out of hundreds isn't airing the same types of shows for the same audience that all the other networks are airing, but is instead trying to target a culture that the other networks aren't targeting. Outside of the "black networks" the closest thing you get is TBS airing some Tyler Perry sitcoms and Fresh Prince reruns. But people are still making the argument that "This network shouldn't exist because it's not targeting me like every other network." If anything, that's a bigger double standard, the desire to have networks that have no issue creating programming that suits your tastes and culture, but not wanting one to exist that targets a group that you're not a part of. And really, racism affects peoples lives in a far, far, far more meaningful way than whether they have to flip through another television network to see something. Even anti-white racism has better rallying cries than BET.
