Rick Rude's one of my favorites both because he's the total package and because he looks like my dad, so it was like seeing my dad kick someone's ass when he was in a match.
I always thought there was a fascinating dynamic to Rick Rude's persona. We've seen his character a million times - self centered, ladies man, obsessed with his own body - and usually it's kind of silly - and there was a playful element to Rude - the airbrushing tights, some of his pre-match promos, but he was just such a serious badass in that ring that you didn't laugh at him, there was almost something scary about him.
I first saw Rick Rude in the WWF and thought he was a weaselly character with a good body, but not really a legit threat to anyone who wasn't enhancement talent. Then he cut his hair and went to WCW and it was a whole different Rick Rude. Somehow cutting his hair made him look bigger, especially in the shoulders and upper torso. His promo style was different. Suddenly the Rick Rude who didn't seem like he could beat anybody in WWF seemed like a legit threat to Sting or any top guy in WCW. That's when I became a fan, and I agree with everyone else that he was the "total package" of wrestlers.

It sucks what happened too him. The corner of the stage where the ring was on got him in the back when he fall on that Sting spot. Just a miss position on the spot. Rude is the guy who make all the faces look great and gave a great match. He was always bouning from Main Eventer to the Upper Midcard. if he wasn't challenging for the World title he was in the match around the US title or I-C title. I wish he gotten more of a Main Event attraction run and had more of feud against the returning Flair over the big gold belt. I am wondering how the 98 in ring return would been like and how he fit in as a wrestler in a changing biusiness.
I talk wrestling and other random stuff on Twitch.
