I don't see the purpose of this. It has nothing to do with wrestling. The guy obviously won't show up and ruin any chance of playing in the NFL. Couldn't he sue since it's like he's being called out on National Television? Didn't Vince sue Turner when Bischoff called him out for a fight to show up on a WCW PPV?

Okay, as someone who's not American and doesn't watch American sports, what's all this about? educate me. He was a defensive player at the University of Missouri who came out as gay. On one hand, he was co-defensive player of the year for the conference he was in, the SEC, which is widely considered to be the best conference in football. One could make the case that he's an intelligent football (football of the US variety) player who knows how to play the game the right way. On the other hand, he's not exceptionally athletic or fast or strong, skills that are critical to have playing professional football. Before he came out as gay he was viewed as a 4th to 5th round pick in the NFL draft (a draft which has 7 rounds...where to put it in its most basic terms every team in the NFL picks a player to add to their team). He was drafted in the 7th round, either due to him being gay or due to him having a poor performance at the NFL combine (an event that tests the athletic attributes of NFL prospects). The Rams of St. Louis drafted him in the 7th round of the draft. I believe he was one of the last 10 or 15 players taken in the draft. He played in the NFL's exhibition season, played fairly well, but was cut from the team before the start of the season (which is next weekend). So the question is was he cut because he was gay, or was he cut because he just wasn't good enough to make the team. Another question is whether any team hasn't picked him up because he is gay, or whether any other team hasn't picked him up because they believe he isn't good enough to play. Another possibility is that he might be good enough to be one of the bench warmers on a team, but nobody wants to deal with the media circus that comes with him being on the team. My personal opinion is they don't believe he is good enough, because the NFL is about as a bottom line "everything is about winning" league as there is in the world. Other opinions may vary. On the other hand I'm a bit surprised he didn't make the practice squad (which is sort of a reserve roster I guess) for any NFL team, especially the Rams.

Couldn't he sue since it's like he's being called out on National Television? Didn't Vince sue Turner when Bischoff called him out for a fight to show up on a WCW PPV? I see no reason for him to sue. He was invited to RAW, not called out. If he doesn't show up, he doesn't show up. If he does make an appearance, he's no different from any other "celebrity guest". If WWE actively tries to embarrass him, then he'd have grounds for legal action. If he does appear, I doubt that it will harm him too much. Sam won't "shoot" on the NFL claiming discrimination over being gay, even if that IS the reason. But that's only because WWE's idea of PG will cause him to dance around the issue of his sexuality and not acknowledge it (e.g. "I got cut because I'm a vampire").

It's just a stunt that will garner some mainstream attention. I guess it'll also reflect well on WWE being 'inclusive' with their anti-bullying stuff.

It's dumb and really makes WWE look desperate to get ratings.

The real question is will Damian Sandow go all out and make out with The Miz?
Also, if Darren Young really is ready to come back, I could see them capitalizing on this to make his return.

gay-gay-gay-gay-gay-Gay World Order. We prefer the term 'Velvet Mafia' for our faction, the *WO stuff is too 90s mainstream.

Michael Sam-Dow comes out, does a few goofy "Hey I suck at football" things.
The real Michael Sam comes out, spears him into oblivion. Feel good moment, and Vince gets to spite Enos again.

If Michael Sam already agreed to appear, then I think it's fine for WWE to hype this. But I think it's inappropriate and tacky to publicly invite him to appear on their show if he wasn't contacted or doesn't wish to appear. This would kind of put him on the spot and make it public if he chooses not to appear. Someone should be able to decline to appear without WWE publicly announcing that they invited someone.

I hope this leads to the debut of AJ Styles representing the Gay Community. *I have no idea what that was about but know there was a big thread about it in the TNA Section that I never read through*

Given how erratic and out of touch Vince is and how he has Raw rewritten on the day of the show to cater to his whims, if they do get this Michael Sam chap, I picture him being treated like Frank Grimes.
Vince Hunter, I've just seen the most heroic dog on television. He pulled a toddler from the path of a speeding car, then pushed a criminal in front of it. Find this dog. I want to make him my new Raw GM.
Hunter Uh, yes sir. In the meantime, here's Michael Sam. (Burns stares blankly.)
The openly gay footballer?
Vince What? Oh, yes, that fellow. Mmm, put him somewhere out of the way, and find that dog!

What's the over/under on this being Damien Sandow playing "Michael Samdow"?
