OK, as I'm doing a little side project with Nikki Heyman, I thought it would be a good thing to have a quick reference guide to what music edits have been done at events during this. So far, here's what I know for sure (You let me know what the original song was and I can fill in the blanks) Starrcade 83 -I'm thinking the ending vid package theme was an edit, but not sure. Starrcade 84 -I know there was some music edits, again not sure. WrestleMania 1 -Opening theme: Edited out "Easy Lover" by Phil Collins -Junkyard Dog's Entrance: Edited Out "Another One Bites The Dust" by Queen -The US Express' Entrance: Edited Out "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen -Wendi Richter's Entrance: Edited Out "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper (odd to me because it was on the DVD when the above and below were edited.) -Hulk Hogan and Mr. T's Entrance: Edited Out "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor -Ending theme: Edited out "Axel F" by ( ) Saturday Night's Main Event 1-3 -Entrance themes listed above all edited -Opening theme: Edited out "Obsession" by Animotion -Show bumpers: Edited out "Take on Me" by aha -Ending theme: Edited out "Take Me Home" by Phil Collins -Uncle Elmer's entrance: Edited out "Don't Go Messin' With A Country Boy" (WHY!?) As Nikki and I go along, when noted edit takes place I'll try to update, that way we can have a complete list.

Here is a weird one. On Old School Raw from March 2013, they edit out 'Cool, Cocky, Bad' (Honky Tonk Man's theme) and dub-in a generic rock track. This is odd because that theme is left intact pretty much everywhere else on the Network.

The legit songs I can understand, but this? I don't get it either. I got it when the DVDs came out, as Jimmy Hart was working with TNA at the time and thus they couldn't get the rights to use the songs he co-worked on save for HBK's theme, but now? Yeah, odd to me. Maybe later things have it unedited, but not looking hopeful.

The legit songs I can understand, but this? WWE doesn't own the publishing for "Don't Go Messing With a Country Boy." Basically, there's two ways to own a song: the recording (the audio) and the publishing (the lyrics and composition). You need to either own or get permission from the rights holders of both to use a song in any form of popular media. In the 80s, people weren't that concerned with publishing rights, so often times when songs were commissioned by companies to songwriters, they would license or outright own the master while the writers kept the publishing. This was true when the WWF made The Wrestling Album. They hired three established songwriters to write it and while the WWF has used the theme for years and paid them royalties, right around the time that the music business started hemmoraging money in the mid-2000s they stopped. By not including "Don't Go Messing with a Country Boy," they don't have to pay the songwriters residuals, and they can't just use it because they don't own the rights. Make sense?

I think people make too big a deal about the music. It could be far more offensive than it actually is, they've done a fantastic job of editing out and keeping the commentary in tact.

Had nothing to do with Jimmy and everything to do with the editors not knowing what they're doing when putting together those sets. A bunch of Jimmy's music, not just HBK's theme, was included. He did the themes for DiBiase, the Rougeaus, the Rockers, Earthquake, the Hart Foundation, Crush, and many others that WWE has never dubbed over on anything. Plus, WWE is the publisher of the theme music he did for them. Notice when watching WCW from 1994 onwards how no former WWE guys had their WWE theme music even if Jimmy was the one who wrote it.

Music is a huge part of the characters. DDP and Jericho just feel incomplete in WCW footage without their real themes. Same for Goldberg.

Summerslam 1998 is completely ruined because of this The ICP Oddities entrance is on the edited DVD that WWE put out years back, weird how it's not on the Network version.

Jericho has Break the Walls Down on a lot of late-end WCW shows. Though what's weird about that is he seems to have some sort of early alternative version of it - the lyrics and structure after the opening bit veer off wildly from the main version of it.

It was on the Classics on Demand airings as well. I do love hearing Chimmel saying "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Insane Clown Posse."

Is this the "Come and bring it, bitch" version he used in his debut and first couple of appearances? Anyway I'd like to see this breakdown of edited songs continue (no pun intended), it's an interesting project.

Riddle me this my brother...
Why is it that in all the footage on youtube, Cactus Jack's theme is replaced by some crap imitation yet on the network the original is there in all its glory?

Riddle me this my brother... Why is it that in all the footage on youtube, Cactus Jack's theme is replaced by some crap imitation yet on the network the original is there in all its glory? WWE or WCW? If WWE, I'm assuming the original production track (Whole Lotta Groove) was not allowed on home video products (I'm assuming you're talking about rips of WWE DVDs that people have put up rather than WWE's Youtube page) but the Network is a streaming service so the rights aren't quite the same. If this is from WWE YT's page, it could be that they just stuck the DVD version up rather than the live version. If WCW, his WCW theme was written by Jimmy Papa, who recently sued WWE over a royalties issue, resulting in all Jimmy Papa themes being removed from footage, including on the Network. However, the lawsuit was settled so all Jimmy Papa themes have been restored.

You've done a lot of assumption there just to make up for my lazy, vague attempt at a question and for that I salute you.
Just to clarify I speak specifically for the footage of Cactus Jack's "debut" on Raw against Triple H. In the past the theme music was an overdub but the network's restored it to its former glory.
It's not so much the music that bothers me, it's the taking away of the crowd reaction. Not just in this case but all of them.

They are inconsistent in editing this theme, but they usually edit-out Public Enemy's theme from WCW. I believe it's still there on some shows of PPVs, but usually on Nitro they dub over it.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but at the Survivor Series 2001, Stone Cold comes out to some god awful rendition of Glass Shatters, which i have no clue to why because he has the actual song on Invasion 2001.
