and I didn't mean that to disparage Corbin. He's got a real presence now. It just shows how easy it is to win over even smarks just by booking someone correctly (and they choose who they do this to).
CJ Parker has a good theme and a great jobber personality. We need enhancement talent and he's perfect for it.

Just gonna watch this and jot down notes as I go:
I like the recap of Takeover in photos like it was a big PPV.
Opening Promo: Titus O'Neil? Oh dear.
Sami Zayn delivers on the mic. Big time. If I could buy stock in any NXT star right now, it would be Zayn.
And the slow heel turn for Neville continues, I think.
I'm excited to see the Itami debut match. I haven't really watched Kenta before.
Hey look it's Emma. She's great as a babyface NXT diva. That's her best role. Stay off Raw.
I have a new name for that figure 4 headlock thing that Charlotte does: Charlotte's Web. I love that move, btw.
I liked the Itami/Gabriel match. It was booked perfectly. Itami looks great. I would try out a different finisher though.
I'm not sold on Barron Corbin yet. I'm intrigued though.
I love the one-upsmanship going on between Zayn and Neville in the main event. I really like the direction Neville seems to be going as the showoff of NXT.

Problem with Itami's finisher was the camera angle that pretty clearly showed he didn't make much contact with Gabriel's chest. He slipped on the springboard dropkick but still got it off, beyond that I have no idea how anybody could say it wasn't a perfectly fine debut. I was a little disappointed that the crowd wasn't making any real noise when he hit the kicks, I thought they would have been 'oohing' or cheering or something. I'll be honest, outside watching WWE and TNA I don't have time to watch any other wrestling, no matter how much I would want to. So I can say for a fact I've never seen one of his matches in Japan from beginning to end. Oh I've heard tons about how great he is and everything else. All I have to go by is what I've seen and that's one match. What I saw is a short Japanese guy that kicks people. Weee? Not trying to be a dick but for all the hype there wasn't a whole lot of substance there. That being said I'm not going to write this guy off after one match, but if his whole schtick is "I kick people" then he can take his little midget ass back to Japan. Use me as an example of "typical WWE audience" you know the ones that are kinda ignorant to what else is out there. Like I said, he doesn't look impressive, he can't really cut a promo due to his (ever improving though) lack of english language skills, and his kung fu moveset, if that's what it is, what was there to be excited about? No one ooohhed and ahhhed cause there was nothing worth doing that for.

Also think it goes a lot better with his "My style is kick" stuff.

Regal: "This is a fighting show, not a whining show." That is the line of the week for me.
A-Ry, I will love you forever but NO...just no. He couldn't be anymore wrong to say that KENTA (he's still KENTA to me dammit)'s Japanese career doesn't matter.
"Hideo Itami" vs. Justin Gabriel was a good enough match but I really didn't like the double foot stomp finish. I hope he eventually takes back the GTS. Eager to see where this program with the Ascension goes.
It's been two years since NXT has been restructured to its current format and I still don't give a f*** about CJ Parker. Renee and A-Ry trying to say he's a "big time player" was laughable. Although I'm impressed by Baron Corbin. Can Corbin grow a beard? He looks a bit too clean and handsome to be a monster hoss. I like his finisher, but I worry that he may have to change it once he gets called up to the main roster. It's too similar to the Sister Abigail.
Good tag team main event, but Titus sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Titus is a great promo, but is so out of depth compared to Kidd, Neville, and Zayn. I'm not a big workrate snob, but I don't feel like he can keep up with them. Kidd did most of the work for his team. If it's true that Titus is only getting pushed because of Batista, then sigh. Why couldn't Batista be friends with someone else?

Just seen Itami's debut match, to me that was perfect as a little showcase match for him. He has a lot more to him but I think he showed enough for his debut. His presence and body language/facial expressions are really something I like, and I think are under appreciated in today's era.
I do admit he needs a more well rounded style which he will be getting the more time he spends at NXT. I have seen a lot of his NOAH matches and there you can get by on stiffness (which is a massive part of the spectacle for that company) but hopefully him being in the ring with people like Zayn/Kidd/Gabriel/Breeze etc will help his overall game.
It is a long process and it will come in time, but I think he is off to a good start. And I feel he already has the right mindset learning English/not expecting and handouts even with his legendary run in Japan, unlike Mistico. It will do a lot for him having that kind of character behind the scenes
Plus the crowd already loves the guy!

Itami's debut was good, could've gone terribly wrong off the springboard though!
One thing that made me laugh was Renee saying "I love Sami Zayn" completely deadpan when he was coming out at the start. THE REMI SHIPPING LIIIIIIIIIIVES!

I thought the Itami match was alright, obviously he'll do well to learn the style, but for first time out in the new system, it did its job, though I wasn't a fan of his double stomp. Though apparently he changes his finisher in the next few weeks.
Liking where Neville and Zayn is going, and I loved the spot where Neville was going for his dive, with Zayn cutting him off to hit his own one.

I don't understand WWE's need to have a heel control so much of the offense, especially with something like Hideo's debut match. It should have been someone other than Gabriel and it should have been an uninterrupted showcase.
I really liked Sami's promo. He invoked morals and ethics, actually sounding believable. Please never turn heel.
Carmella had a better 'debut' than most divas ever get. If it was the main roster, she'd be in a PG threesome with Enzo and Cass already.

Hideo is good enough that WWE doesn't have to make people look like scrubs to show us how good he is.

It's merely that the layout of the matches sometimes weaken crowd heat. The week after Miz turned face, still needing to cement his status, they had Otunga put him in like... a six minute resthold that would make Orton blush. I'm being hyperbolic of course and this wasn't as bad but I just think Itami should have a debut match with more pop. It's not a big deal though. First impressions mean little in wrestling, unless they're really bad or really great.

You always have Angelo Dawkins if you need someone to get no offense in.

It should have been someone other than Gabriel and it should have been an uninterrupted showcase. Yeah that drives me nuts too, it's all hyped up for people to see this amazing new talent and they spend most of the match in a rest-hold against somebody that usually loses their matches quickly. I get the logic that they want to make you wait to see the exciting stuff but that doesn't really work before the moveset is established and if the duration of the eventual offence is a lot shorter than what preceded it. It's even worse if Riley is taking shots at him and his hyped background while he's being worn down. Like you say a fast-paced showcase against a jobber is a much better idea for a first match, or even against somebody more established it can be sold that they were cocky and taken by surprise. I wasn't too keen on 15 minutes of talking at the start either, it's OK as a one off as they need practice and Neville and Zayn's parts were great but it's not what I want from NXT as it takes up too much of the episode, like Regal said it's a fighting show.
