I've seen the Hong Kong stuff as well, I just thought Saints was fun too. Hell, I even liked the admittedly horrible sequel. Just fun times.

Gervais' movies aren't great Maybe it's because he isn't funny. I have tried watching lots of stuff with him and he never made me chuckle much less laugh.

On a different perspective Steven Wright was hilarious as "the dude on the couch" in Half Baked...Totally stole the show for me

Dane Cook. Hugely popular as a comedian, terrible in movies. An argument could be made, easily, that the stand-up was terrible as well, but the guy did have a hell of an audience for a while. I'll have to agree with that second part to a degree but I gotta say, dude's acting was way better than the comedy. I'll take a viewing of Mr. Brooks over one of his specials any day.

I don't know if this counts, and I know we are romanticizing his whole career with his passing, but Robin Williams was in some bad ones in the tail end of his career (Man of the House or whatever it was, which tried to make a Clinton joke...in the mid 2000s?!!?) And an unneeded Mrs. Doubtfire sequel was coming, apparently.
Dane Cook is on top of my brother's list of people he wants to see Vic Morrow'ed.

He was in World's Greatest Dad though which validates all of his shitty movies from the last few years. He's not known as a stand-up (although he's been doing it recently) but every time I see that Dave Foley's in a movie you can just tell his career's not going great, which is too bad because I think he's brilliant.

For me it's Chris Rock, I loved his stand up but haven't enjoyed a single movie with him in it How much for one rib? That's the best Chris Rock movie moment. I can't think of a another one where I laughed. I think his standup is hilarious. I dunno how to word it so I'll just say it: It's like he doesn't "transfer" between the mediums worth a shit. I don't know if it's how he feeds off a crowd? There's just something so "off" when he's in a movie.

Robin Williams was in a few stinkers (and every great actor is), but his great movies completely overshadowed them. He also did drama really well, like in Dead Poets Society, One Hour Photo, Good Will Hunting, and What Dreams May Come. I'm going with Nick Swardson for this. I actually like the stand-up I've seen him do, but his movies are horrible.

Gervais is a vice-versa case for me- I love his acting, but his standup either bores me or just makes me roll my eyes. There's something about his delivery I don't like.
I like Kevin Hart's acting so long as he's written in a role that works for him, like the character he plays on Real Husbands Of Hollywood.
The only time I enjoyed Rodney Dangerfield in a movie was as Juliette Lewis's deadbeat dad in Natural Born Killers.

There's almost an uncomfortable amount of confidence in his delivery I think that gets me, and I don't think the material is strong enough to warrant it. I just watched Derek and I loved it to pieces, he's very good at writing television but his stand-up doesn't work for me either. I think I'm a bit conceited too because when they did that show where Louis CK, Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Gervais talk stand-up I found Gervais just so out of place. He came off as a novice comedian who thinks he is some kind of authority on the matter when I wouldn't really consider that his world.

Can't believe George Carlin was on the main cast of a children's show. After checking out a few clips of "Shining Time Station," Mr. Conductor is SO not him. It's kinda funny

Eddie Griffin is kind of an example of this, though I haven't seen enough of his movies to really say. "Foolish" was bad except for scenes when his character is doing his stand-up but the story sucked. "Redline" was just garbage even though his character wasn't one of the leads. I remember enjoying "The New Guy" when I was younger but I haven't seen it in years and I don't know if it will hold up. I remember even enjoying "Double Take" a long time ago, but it probably won't hold up these days. I heard that "Undercover Brother" was actually funny, so I might watch it. I can say that I kind of enjoyed "Blast" with him, even though I still have a hard time taking to him as an action hero in that movie. you should watch UB, its a fun harmless little flick! Foolish was utter crap (man Master P should have invested his millions of $ in good writers/directors)

It's kinda funny So imagine my excitement when I was like 9 and saw Mr Conductor telling jokes to a big crowd of people. I'd say that little bit of his stand up I saw way back then (it was the "Keeping People Alert" bit from What Am I Doing In New Jersey?) had a pretty profound effect on me. I didn't understand a whole lot of what he was talking about but it was still the funniest thing I'd ever seen up to that point).

He had some funny jokes during those scenes, but you're right, Master P should have hired better writers and directors. Master P only wrote the movie, but the movie was directed by Dave Meyers. At least it wasn't as bad as "Hot Boyz," which Master P wrote AND directed. *shudder*

Bill Cosby
I guess Mother Juggs and Speed is the exception to the rule, but I really hated his other movies.
The TV show was awesome though.

A bit different but Stephen Lynch...Charismatic and witty as hell with his stand up and improve but I saw him in the Wedding Singer musical and it was dreadful... Been a huge fan of Stephen Lynch for years now (I may or may not have played "Kitten" at work to cheer someone up) but I haven't seen his version of Wedding Singer. Frankly, I'm guessing it'll depend on if you like musicals or not, or if you liked the original movie or not. Me, I wasn't a fan of the movie so casting someone I like in a stage musical version won't do that much to improve it.

But he was awful in Good Luck Chuck, Simon Sez, My Best Friend's Girl, and Dan in Real Life.
