As a kid I loved the line up one of the UHF channels had. 6am till 11am was cartoons. A nice mixture of looney tunes,Popeye and other stuff. 11am Was the start of the Double Feature movie. The first film was always a horror movie. But the second film went in cycles. For months it would be say the old B/w Blondie films. Then it would be 2 months of Martial Art movies. Then 2 months of Blaxploitation movies. I was pissed when that UHF channel because a Fox affiliate and they stopped the double features.
I was so happy when my parents got a Betamax vcr in 1978.I would use it to record cartoons, while I was watching other cartoons. Somewhere in my stack of tapes I still got a betamax tape with 2 hours of great late 70s cartoons.

Saturday morning cartoons were a part of my childhood too, but dedicated kids blocks aren't really needed in an era with multiple cartoon channels and the internet. I'm surprised it lasted this long. Stuff you have to pay for... And people for the most part spend money on that. People who keep cable have plenty of channels to shift through to see stuff they like and the people who cut the cord have netflix/hulu to stream cartoons they like. Only people really harmed by this is the group of people who are too poor for netflix and cable but that's a much smaller % in 2014 than it was in 2007.

Dammit, I don't have cable, so nothing is going to be worth watching on Saturday morning.

Kids are already spending more time in school as is (be it losing summer break or the school day being extended they are? they have a half day every Wednesday around here and get way more vacation than I did when I was going to school.

Yeah around here they get way more days off that I ever got. Was told that every other Friday all they do is watch movies. Plus they get almost 3 weeks off for X-mas. And almost a week off for Thanksgiving. The only difference I see is they go back very early in August. Where as from 1st until 9th Grade we didn't go back until the beginning of September. In High School we went back the last week of August.

Never did I think when I was little that by the time I'd turn 30, Saturday Morning Cartoons wouldn't be a thing anymore. This is why it sucks that Cartoon Network's DC Nation hasn't worked out. That and the Saturday lineup Hub had for a while felt like actual Saturday Morning blocks. At least there are plenty of cartoons on Netflix, plus I have most of the Disney Afternoon shows on DVD that I can marathon every weekend if I want.

I recreated my childhood Saturday morning lineup recently with DVDS. Started off with Blackstarr, followed by an hour of Loony Tunes. Then some Popeye,3 stooges and Little Rascals. Then ended it with some WWF Wrestling CHallenge.

It sucks that this block is ending. I DVRed DBZ:Kai, JL:U, and Spectacular Spiderman every week on that block. I don't have Netflix or any service like that (I have no money left after my mortgage, car payment, utilities, school loans, my commute, and feeding my family), so that means I do without these shows now.

I hated moving to Florida because I got screwed that summer because in NY they got out in mid to late June and went back after Labor Day but down here they got out in early June and went back in mid-August. so I got out in late June and had to go back early.
