Joey Ryan not getting voted in was an angle, though. No doubt they had already agreed to a deal when they ran his Gut Check or shortly thereafter. They still made a mockery of the actual idea though. With Ryan actually being the best of the lot and having the most fan support and they still said no while saying yes to people who not only lost their matches, but sucked (Lapa, Silva). Saying no to decent talent that the fans actually liked was a slap in the face to the whole concept. To be fair to them, Alex Silva was never supposed to get through Gut Check, but apparently Flair liked the promo he cut so much that he changed his vote afterward in a total shoot. Which I guess kind of put them in a bind because even if the other guy had voted no he still would've passed anyway. And of course that was the last time Ric was part of one of those panels. I guess they thought that they had to make it look more difficult to win Gut Check. If they passed two guys in a row then it would look too easy. So I'm guessing that's why the whole Joey Ryan thing went the way it did. At the end of the day though neither of them really did any good by winning the competition as it is.

Man, I missed out on a lot of good TNA comedy. TNA only has about half the match on their Youtube channel, so I tracked down the full thing a while back for LOLTNA. Enjoy. (I can embed this, it's not WWE-owned footage...yet) Also, do not go over to the Gut Check website, unless you want to be depressed and/or angry at TNA for the sheer amount of talent they passed up just to put guys like this on TV.

Passing over Lince Dorado, Sugar Dunkerton, Bobby Fish & Greg Iron was a mistake... Passing over Tomasso Ciampa, Lufisto & John Silver was criminal IMO. I don't really want to know who else they skipped over for fear of a vein popping in my forehead.

I went over there for research purposes and went all the way through it to find what I was looking for. The further back I went, the more my mood worsened. When I got to the end, I was incredibly pissed and wanting to know who the braindead monkey they had in charge of the whole thing was, so I could scream at them. One could go through that website alone and have the makings of a damn fine roster, yet TNA passed them up to put people like the aforementioned Kris Lewie on TV instead. It's probably one of the most offensive things TNA's ever done. Something that is possibly even more rage-inducing: out of EVERYONE on that site, TNA only hired one person. And that person is Crazzy Steve.

It was his job to look at the prospects and decide who was going to get a tv tryout. But also, having found out what Gutcheck was supposed to be when Jeff Jarrett pitched it and what it became makes it worse. Probably shouldn't tell you for health reasons.
