Two of the most talented women in wrestling today? Check. Book one of them as a long reigning, dominant heel champion on the main roster? Check. Book the other as a driven, capable up and comer in development? Check. Fanbase speculating what a showdown between them would look like and growing eager to see it happen? Check. Slow burning feud with an epic buildup leading to a top drawer payoff match at a PPV? Now why do that when we can throw it out for free on tv in less than five minutes-twice! And heck, lets make them both tweeners instead of straight up heel or face and toss in some lesbian innuendo just for chuckles! NEW BOOM PERIOD!!! Even the two Raw matches, while done in ways to make them look like utter morons, were fine for what they were, which was just something to spark some initial interest and build up to a real match between them. And on that front it worked, with them being friendly at first, Paige loses again, then she snaps and becomes more aggressive and wins the title back in the rematch. That's all fine, decent story on the whole. Then they got into this weird hitting on each other thing with them just seemingly ignoring all of the times they'd attacked each other in the interest of mind games that Paige at least in the weeks since losing the title back (which was itself absolutely moronic) has seemingly been playing up as if it was all entirely sincere. Plus there was some of the stuff in there in the middle, which is still largely going on, of them losing over and over to every other woman on the roster thanks to each other but no one bothering to keep track of it in the name of the two of them just continuing to quasi-fight over the belt but still not really dislike each other enough to have an actual feud. It comes off like we're supposed to forget that they've already faced each other multiple times. I think AJ's initial promo after Paige turned heel on her was gold in hindsight. The one where she claimed to 'not play little girl games'. Then Paige shoved her off the stage and the feud too. It's almost like Dunn or someone of his ilk whispered in Vince's ear that two talented women wrestling wasn't 'sexy' enough.

My theory: they either should have debuted Psige earlier and built her up to go over AJ at WM for the title-or they shoujd have used someone else as the transitional champion and brought Pauge to the main roster while AJ was out, then have Paigecre-win the belt upon her return and then start feuding them. Throwing the match away twice was stupid.

I want AJ to steal Paige's car and tout about having diarrhea in Paige's car. Then, the feud will kick into high gear.

All building up to AJ beginning to use the Achilles tendon lock or something as a new finisher so that she can then not even try it in the blowoff match and win with the Shining Wizard anyway.

I keep seeing "it's better than AJ vs. a Bella" but I have to disagree. AJ vs. Nikki would at least not have terrible lesbian overtones and with Steph's involvement would actually generate some heat.
The real answer is not scraping the Alicia Fox meltdown story though, that was more interesting in 5 minutes than this entire feud has been.

To be fair, the lesbovertones seem to have been dropped. They probably figured that shit would be over like rover, but it's the wrong time and the wrong characters to do that with, and even the internet types seem to not like it.

Also don't forget, AJ needs to beat Paige on Smackdown WITH the Achilles Tendon Lock clean as a sheet a week before their PPV match.

Or do it like Punk Undertaker HIAC 2009 where they had the whole story about how the Hell's Gate finisher was banned and then unbanned in time for HIAC and guess what the finish was? A tombstone and no Hell's Gate was attempted in the match.

One thing I've noticed about this feud is, as bad as the out-of-ring storytelling has been (and even as a huge fan of both women it's been pretty bad, though it's nowhere near Sheamus/Del Rio), the in-ring storytelling has actually been pretty good. Both AJ and Paige appear to learning from each other and developing reversals to each others' moves.
First match, Paige counters the Black Widow into the Paige Turner after AJ starts off dominant. Rematch, AJ scores a quick roll-up after Paige starts off dominant. 3rd match, AJ is able to avoid the Paige Turner and PTO and win with the Shining Wizard. 4th match, Paige kicks out of the Shining Wizard, counters the Black Widow into the RamPaige and wins. And in the most recent triple threat, AJ was able to reverse Paige's Black Widow counter and win.
It's a nifty bit of psychology that I wouldn't have expected from WWE women's matches.

AJ is by far the best woman they have on the roster. Paige is the second best. So win win IMHO.
