There are copies of it doing the rounds on YouTube but I don't think it was released. One ultra rare is The New Midnight Express theme. If anybody found this, I'd offer to pay with my body.

At least we got Jeff Jarrett's bad-ass theme out of the whole ordeal.

Actually, didn't it happen late 1997? No Yes it did. In fact, the Headbangers won the NWA Tag Team Titles in February of 1998. Cornette had already been aligned with Jarret in January of 1998 when Jarret was the NWA North American Heavyweight Champion, which he won on Raw the first week of January.

It did lead to the hilariously ironic "There's all the great wrestlers in the world... and then there's me!" from ol' Double J, so there's that... Actually no, that predates it. Jarrett's "great wrestler" character was how he redebuted in November '97. The NWA stuff didn't happen until the following spring. Russo meant it as a rib on the NWA/Cornette, but Cornette wound up turning Russo's rib into not only free promotion for the NWA, but a legit payday for some of his friends. This. There's no real other "reason" for it, no plans to turn it into something big, NWO-style or feuding with DX or Austin. It was a Russo parody of the NWO stuff mocking Cornette's old-school mindset and Cornette tried to do what he could with it.

Can't we just say it was in the middle and call a truce?

Didn't they lose the NWA tag belts to the Headbangers for a week?

Didn't they lose the NWA tag belts to the Headbangers for a week? Yes, the Headbangers did win them. I can't remember how long they had them and can't be bothered to look it up, but I do distinctly remember that the Headbangers won the NWA Tag Team Titles in WWE. I believe it's been mentioned in the thread. I can't be bothered to look that up either.

It would've been neat if McMahon aligned with the NWA faction and prided them as true champions ready to bring tradition back to WWF. Even better, it would've been cool if Flair somehow got out of his contract and showed up in the WWF to feud with Austin. That could have happened. He and Bischoff got into it when Flair missed some shows to seen his son Reid compete at an amateur wrestling tournament. I don't know if Bischoff fired him or just suspended him, but for a short while in 1998, Flair was off WCW TV. And, there were rumors of bringing Flair into the WWF. But, he ended up going back to WCW.

As a fan of the NWA, I enjoyed this stuff esp. when they had a tournament and the NWA officials helped Jarrett win the NWA North American title. lol It really had a Horsemen vibe. But it may have been better if they had used better guys, The Rock N Roll Express used as heels and looking old wasn't the best way to sell an angle like this.

Can't we just say it was in the middle and call a truce? Actually, while it didn't air until the following Monday, January 5th, the angle began with a RAW taping on December 30, 1997. That looks like late '97 to me, and certainly several months before the spring of '98. DevonDragon wins this rather petty argument.
