There is a very high turnover rate of female posters.

I came to FAN looking for a woman. You know what I mean? I wanted a woman. I couldn't find no woman. I found a lot of men that looked like women...

If I was a female I would NEVER admit it here. This board is bonkers.

I went to a party once and there were no women around, so this guy was like "This is a total sausage party." and I was excited, won't lie. I love sausages, they're delicious. But then this group of women showed up, and the guy said "Well, not anymore." That day I learned that they won't let you eat sausage if women are around. So I hope there's no women here. Cause I plan on grilling up some links and I want to be able to eat them.

A few. I don't blame them for not posting a lot, considering some of the topics and debates that happen here.
Not gonna lie, it gets pretty uncomfortable.

It is fascinating the issue with women that come up. I feel people who do have the issues with women are getting smacked down more and more though when arguments come up, and their bullshit isn't getting tolerated by posters. And now the rule of posting up close shots of body parts on the pics/gifs threads of the women might help a little bit, but I'd like to here more women on the board talk about the issues that they have with other posters and hope to stop that from happening at the source.

Compared to the rest of the internet I feel like this place is relatively accepting and friendly towards women. Granted, there's some degree of weird neckbeardiness, but those people are in the minority here, at least from my perception. I don't get the whole "oh, a woman would get so much shit here" sentiment. This is FAN, not /b/.

I can get a mangina by tucking it in like buffalo bill from Silence of the Lambs does that count? If I was a female I would NEVER admit it here. This board is bonkers. What? This board is tame compared to WoW or some of the dark corners of the net.

Granted, there's some degree of weird neckbeardiness, but those people are in the minority here, at least from my perception. I don't get the whole "oh, a woman would get so much shit here" sentiment. This is FAN, not /b/. For every one "big" thread with a lot of unsavoury atttitudes, there's a LOT of small stuff on here in tons of threads that make me go "christ" related to gender/homophobia/transphobia/sexist thoughts. Possibly due to "my people" being LGBT and such, but still, I'm aware of it. Stuff like using the term 'tranny' instead of transvestite, or 'tits!' said in any thread when discussing a woman in the wrestling forums, 'gay'/'homo' used as a negative term etc etc. A lot of the time people don't realize a lot of words or the tones they put across with their words are pretty bad, which is where the social education deals have to come in. Hell, OP seems like a decent fellow who gives games away for free to people and always discusses music and stuff really enjoyably, but used females instead of women in a thread title. Clearly the OP is NOT a bad person, but it's another subtlety which can make it difficult for any women on here to want to comment except in an exacerbated way a lot of the time. And sometimes when they do reply annoyed, some members will say 'what does it matter? Don't overreact' which belittles legitimate concerns. It's not that people are being horrible, but sometimes society drives us to say/use phrases/ideas which are crap if you put your empathy senses on. "I am a jerk" isn't a good excuse for it either, which is an oft-used phrase on this board whenever people want to excuse toolish behavior whilst never trying to grow as a person/improve themselves. This board is definitely one of the better on the internet, but I like to believe we're a pretty intelligent board too, so we're a lot more aware of disappointing subtleties/concerns of language n'all if that makes sense? NOTE: I want to add here, before anyone thinks I'm making digs at any posters, I'm really not. I'm not thinking of any one poster with my comments before anyone feels hurt/annoyed by what I'm saying.

I see how using slang like "tranny" would rub some the wrong way, but what's wrong with referring to women as females?

I see how using slang like "tranny" would rub some the wrong way, but what's wrong with referring to women as females? It's dehumanizing and has links to treating women as nothing but objects or animals, a female human is a woman, saying female can refer to any species etc, but there's tons of well written articles out there to explain it. Here's one - www.theroot.com/articles/culture/2013/02/is_calling_a_woman_a_female_offensive.html
