Have there been matches that went past an hour?

CM Punk and Chris Hero went 93 minutes for IWA:MS. ROH had one with Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson going for almost 80 minutes.

Flair and Windham went 90 minutes a bunch of times in the 80s.

Inoki and Masa Saito reportedly had a match in New Japan that went over 2 hours and five minutes.
Also, during the pioneering days of professional wrestling in the late 1800s and early 1900s, some matches were said to go hours and hours at a time. Most of these were shoots, similar to early MMA fights where fighers would be defending against holds for hours.

That's part of what made them decide to make it a work, they realized it was no f***ing good laying in a hold for 20 minutes trying to escape and you couldn't just go out there wrestling for 4 hours a night everynight.

Basically. If professional wrestling was always like with Great Gama, that would have been a really tough sell past a certain era.

I remember a kayfabe reason for matches lasting for hours in the early 1900s was retroactively given in an issue of WWF Magazine in '96, claiming during the depression, the superstars wanted to entertain the people for longer to give them their money's worth.

The world record was some kind of 24 hour battle royale where participants were eliminated and returned later after lunch or whatever.
The longest two man match off the top of my head is the island death match.

I have a book about the strangest wrestling matches ever. It states the longest match in history was one between Joe Stecher and Ed the Strangler Lewis in 1916. It was declared a draw at the five hour mark, and Billy Sandow, Lewis's manager claimed that while Stecher was hospitalised, Lewis had a light supper and went out dancing until 4:30 in the morning. Awesome.

I've seen the Inoki-Saito island death match. Lots of headlocks in the long grass and tiki torches.
The way it starts, with the setting and aerial shots, it looks impressive but it goes on and on and on...and on and on and on. By the end (far before the end, really) I was sick of the sight of the pair of them.

I remember hearing about this but can't find anything on it online.

How in the hell did the ref lose the two wrestlers? Unless the two wrestlers fell thru a tear in the time space continuum I have to conclude that is the worst ref ever.

Thanks to a rift in the space-time continuum, all Randy Orton matches actually last an average of 11.5 hours.

Thanks to a rift in the space-time continuum, all Randy Orton matches actually last an average of 11.5 hours. Is that including his entrance? Because 11.5 hours seems like a conservative estimate.
