Jays send OF Anthony Gose to Detroit for 2B Devon Travis.
Potential for potential.

Yeah give the Cy Young to the only guy with and ERA over 2.40 instead of the guy who went 16 games straight allowing 2 or less runs while pitching at least 7 innings. No, I'm not bitter at all :S

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports that Ian Desmond turned down a seven-year, $107 million contract extension from the Nationals last offseason.
Phillies signed OF Jeff Francoeur to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

I keep hearing the Kershaw/Bumgarner to Brady/Manning analogies (one dude has rings, the other has stats), but there's a fatal flaw in the comparisons:
It's not direct head-to-head.
Kershaw actually doesn't struggle against the Giants ala Manning vs. the Pats- he's 14-5 vs. the Giants, which is a bit different from 5-11 for Peyton vs. #12.
He has more of a Cardinals problem (Kershaw/Wainwright- that's a different story)

According to Jon Heyman on CBS Sports, the Dodgers are looking closely at Russell Martin.

Mike Trout won the AL MVP. Interesting note is that Felix Hernandez finished above Corey Kluber in MVP voting, despite Kluber winning the Cy Young.

I'm thinking with the Cervelli for Justin Wilson trade that the Yanks think Gary Sanchez is going to be coming up to the majors sooner than later. He'll be a good backup to McCann.

Clayton Kershaw gets NL MVP, the first NL pitcher to win MVP since 1968, and only the 11th player to win MVP and the Cy Young in the same season.

FWIW, some scouts don't see him as a catcher (more of a 1B.) Tucker Blair of BP was praticularly down on him, grading his realistic role a 40 out of 80.

No Yankee appeared on any MVP ballots this year. Last time that happened was 1992. The Yankees had managed a player in the top ten every year since 1997.
I think the Cervelli deal had more to do with JR Murphy being out of options and needing a spot on the roster this year than Sanchez who probably wont be ready til late this year or more likely 2016.

Yeah, I forgot about John Ryan Murphy. There's also Austin Romine if they need a third catcher. His bat doesn't impress, but he's a solid backstop.
Though if Sanchez is projected to be more of a 1B than a Catcher, then at least there's a backup plan to Mark Teixeira when he inevitably gets hurt. Speaking of prospects, I wonder if Rob Refsnyder will get a chance this upcoming season. He can play 2B or the outfield. Otherwise the Yankee farm system is mediocre at best.
And it shouldn't be any surprise that the Yankees didn't have any MVP votes this year (though I am surprised that Jeter didn't get any undeserved votes for old times' sake). Gardner and Ellsbury were the only players on the team who were any good offensively, and while they had solid seasons they weren't standout great. Otherwise their best players were two starting pitchers who spent a large chunk of time on the DL (Pineda, Tanaka) and a relief pitcher who was at least in the running for AL RotY (Betances).

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said Friday that the club will not re-sign Torii Hunter. His son is a wide receiver for Notre Dame. I wouldn't be shocked if he tried to see if there was a fit with one of the Chicago teams to be closer to his boy.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Marlins are "closing in" on a 13-year, $325 million contract extension with Giancarlo Stanton. Jeez, is there going to be money left for anybody else or is this going to be like Bugs Bunny vs The Gashouse Gorillas?
