Good for Hamilton. He seems like a good dude trying to do the right thing, and things just haven't gone well for him in LA. Go back to Texas, stay clean and maybe start hitting. He's got plenty of people rooting for him.

Any word yet on what the Angles are getting for Hamilton?

Two trains of thought on the Hamilton situation. Yes, the contract was a mistake for someone with his history, but at the same time I'm still pulling for the dude. Recovery is never an easy thing, and relapses are, unfortunately, far more common than one might think.
Looking at it as a behavioralist (can't help it anymore), I get it. Stress of a contract, an injury and worry over not living up to it, a marriage (his anchor) falling apart right around the time of the relapse, it all adds up.
Take someone who had a long history of a certain coping mechanism, put them under stress, add in personal (marriage) and financial (worry over the contract) woes, and for a substantial number of addicts, you'll get what we saw. The unusual part is that he was self-aware enough to report it himself, which most addicts not in treatment would not do. They'd excuse it, rationalize it, but not self-report.
The worriesom part is that the self-report could also prove a spiral. He is under stress, relapses, "dose the right thing" by reporting the issue, and then the remaining stable part of his life starts to unravel. This, in turn, could lead to either a massive bender or, sadly, worse.

Honestly, I think the way the Angels and to a lesser extent, MLB handled it was real scummy on their part. Hamilton did the right thing by recognizing that he was having a relapse and voluntarily reported it. Drug addiction is a serious disease and instead of showing even the slightest bit of empathy or support for his plight, the Angels tried to weasel their way out of their overpaying for his contract.

I don't intend for this to come off as crass or insensitive, but how was Josh Hamilton not suspended? Cocaine is on the banned substances list, the fact that he confessed to using it because he realized he would fail a drug test shouldn't absolve him of guilt. I get that an independent arbitrator ruled on it, but should it have even gotten that far in the first place? Shouldn't Hamilton have just been suspended for using a banned substance?

The Mets will be the team in New York for the foreseeable future, but it's nice to see the Yankees put the Minor Leaguers in their place tonight and break their streak. ;D

Today's Sox-Royals game has been postponed until a later date TBD. They will finish last night's (2-2, Top Of The 9th) game tomorrow before the start of the regularly scheduled game. The smartest thing said after the whole fracas on Thursday is from Royals manager Ned Yost, who said that his players are the hunted now. "[The players] have got to be able to control their emotions through that mental side of it. Just take care of business on the baseball field. Somebody gets hit intentionally, they back each other. That's a very tight group in there. They'll stay together and they'll protect each other, but we just have to make sure we're playing our game on the field. That's the most important thing." (Source: Royals Downplay Role Of Instigator) Meanwhile, Jeff Samardzija is getting support on Twitter from ex-teammates on the North Side, but everybody is looking to turn the page and move on.

The suspensions and fines are in.
*Yordano Ventura (KC) - 7 game suspension *Edinson Volquez (KC) - 5 game suspension *Lorenzo Cain (KC) - 2 game suspension *Kelvin Herrera (KC) - 2 game suspension *Chris Sale (CWS) - 5 game suspension *Jeff Samardzija (CWS) - 5 game suspension *Tyler Flowers (CWS) - Fined
The players suspended have also been fined. They take effect from tomorrow, although if there are appeals, the players can play until the process is complete.

Cain has appealed his suspension. Not sure of any other appeals yet.
EDIT: Sale and Samardzija are both appealing.

All the Royals have appealed. (A lot of Royals fans on social media are crying "What about Eaton?")
Still wondering what Tyler Flowers did to get a fine. Too intimidating in catchers gear?

Not since the latter days of Mike Mussina have I ever seen a pitcher give up so many two-strike extra-base hits more than CC Sabathia.
5-1, Minor Leaguers.
