I'm trained but even the social ridiculousness of a small British indy was enough to put me off wrestling. Did you forget to shake everyones hand?

I'm trained but even the social ridiculousness of a small British indy was enough to put me off wrestling. Did you forget to shake everyones hand? Oh no, I had the nerve to be injured for a good while and when I returned and some newer guys asked me for help on moves that I knew how to do so I helped them, I got chewed out for it. I stopped being invited to social events and whatnot, so I decided f*** it. I don't need that shit.

I wanted to when I was a kid. But the tail end of my junior year of high school saw both WCW and ECW fold and then be bought out by McMahon and between being so discouraged by wrestling becoming a monopoly and getting a lot more interested in stand up comedy as an artistic outlet turned me off any in ring ambitions (although of course now you have a mini trend of wrestlers doing comedy). Wasn't that big of a loss (other than hours upon hours of day dreaming as a kid). But luckily I became discouraged while in high school as opposed to graduating high school, going to wrestling school, and in the unlikely chance my fat, unathletic ass graduated wrestling school and then started working the indies. Just to take all these bumps and start paying dues (plus paying whatever money it costs in wrestling school tuition and all the travel costs attached traveling from show to show) and then learning that the chances to make the big time was slashed by 2/3 (or 1/2 if you didn't consider ECW "big time"). Luckily in my field of entertainment the only thing that gets injured is my pride, which is another consideration. I broke my ankle in a freak accident when I was 22 and in my convalescence I was thinking "Broken bones and the recovery/rehabilitation process is such a f***ing ordeal, good thing I didn't follow through with my plans to wrestle or else I might be going through this on a fairly consistent basis. Part of me has thought about being a manager in my free time, but that wouldn't be a good idea trying to balance stand up and managing (with a day job to boot) would really spread me thin. Plus I don't think anyone would take too kindly to a manager who would refuse to take bumps due to said experience with my broken ankle.

I used to imagine how fun it would be to be a wrestler-and especially when pay per views came around, like the Royal Rumble.
I imagine I would have retired by now, not because I couldn't hack it, but because of the product-that or I'd be living in Japan and wrestling

I've seriously thought about doing the NJPW school since it's so close and I cut a mean Japanese promo when drunk, but I read about the training and was like "I guess I'll stick to my bro-split in the gym."

Sometimes I feel lucky cause I am just 18 and I am starting......but sometimes I hear stuff about wrestlers who started at 9-13 and that's just weird what about their childhoods and stuff. There isn't much "social ridiculousness" in where I'm at people are really nice here and just that you know......wrestling takes a toll on your body.

The $3000 price tag on wrestling school killed that dream for me.

I am 29 and wish I would have given it a go right after high school, but I am pretty average height and (while I was good at my sports in my day) I don't have the type of athleticism that lends itself to wrestling I was a good baseball player because I have good hand eye cordination and a good football player becaude I am mean, but I am slow and can't jump.
I did do one day at a wrestling school about 2 months ago. I did a day of training, set up, worked security, and tore down after a show. I never went back because everything I have heard says don't get trained by people who never MADE IT, and these guys definitely hadn't. The guy who was the head trainer, "Roughhouse" Ralph Mosco, apparently worked some WWF job matches in the mid 90s, but he never even spoke a word to me. I just thought maybe being a ref or manager was something to try before it was TOO TOO late, but it might already be. Oh well, at least I can say I bumped around in a ring a bit I guess..

I don't know why, it has never crossed my mind. And I mean never. I was athletic at school but I dropped out of sport relatively quickly so there must be a link to that and I never trained much seriously. And the funny thing is I've always loved to fight, it's the thing that I think I've always been the best at yet never thought about going into MMA/Wrestling. But given the chance, I would love to write or book for wrestling.

I considered trying out for a place when I was 17/18, but I was a wreck. In damn good condition cardio/core strength wise for the most part but with unsavory issues with chemicals and a foul attitude.
I remember being annoyed with myself a year later for not doing it, then I decided I would...before being put off by someone advising me for past neck/arm/leg injuries it just wouldn't be wise, and that I'd be better trying to write or manage due to performance work or something else, but I didn't like the idea of dealing with egos (...another career choice made that happen anyway), schlocky outdated 'respect' routines (...same again...), and no guaranteed pay cheques (...which I then fell for in music work again a few times...) if I ever got a shot with any company.
Frankly I think with what we all know about pro-wrestling, positive and negative, every person who gets involved with the business must either be the most well adjusted and decent type of person around to deal with the bullshit, or be utterly lost in space and somehow rich enough to support something which profits very few people post-rent/injury rehab/prescription/bills every month. EDIT: With all due respect to the workers on this board, I think those of you who share your work/ask for positives and criticism/have a good attitude fit the former description, as well as the people who used to wrestle but stopped due to varying things, or started training but had to stop etc.
