I always find it funny that the best arc in the entire show IMO is complete filler...because it has the best duels in the series IMO. Yugi Vs Rafael 1 and 2 Valon Vs Joey in IMO Joeys best duel in the entire show Mai Vs Joey Dartz Vs Yugi and Kaiba Duke and Rebecca Vs Valon (yea it was a squash match but fun none the less) Yami Vs Yugi (nice precurser to the series finale) Agree with Yami Vs Yugi. Probably the best one of the series

This thread made me wanna go back and watch some episodes and I could not help but laugh that from battle city onwards that Kaibas entire dialogue conisisted of 1 phrase.
"IT'S A TRICK" Hell even by the series end he is manages to try and convince himself everything he is seeing is a trick lol.

Sorry if I end up rambling here. I started with this being a reply and just kept adding on thoughts. This thread made me wanna go back and watch some episodes and I could not help but laugh that from battle city onwards that Kaibas entire dialogue consisted of 1 phrase. "IT'S A TRICK" Hell even by the series end he is manages to try and convince himself everything he is seeing is a trick lol. Man, for how good a show it ended up being (with all the edits aside), they burned a lot of opportunities. Kaiba never really came around on what was truly going on until the final arc, and when that happened he just shut up about it with no real revelation or "moment" (that I'm aware of, anyway). He just went all Mr. Satan/Hercule with everything. And I know we mentioned it before, but they slowly were building up Joey as if he was gonna beat Kaiba (losing in 1 turn in Duelist Kingdom turned into getting into Battle City on a fluke and then damn near beating Kaiba but still falling short) and it never happened. They also did a decent job on the final duel between Yugi and Yami, even if some of it was totally "out there". He made such mincemeat of the three God Cards, it was almost like they were never anything to worry about in the first place, but that's forgivable at that point. If you're gonna make anyone on the show go through THAT, the finale was the time. I also would sometimes love all the cards they just "made up" that were never in the card game/could never be in the card game/were changed. I used to play it myself, and would see a card on the show and hear its effect and think "OMG I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED to add that card!!!" and then find out it never existed or the effect was completely different. The one time it truly clicked was when Yugi played...I think it was called "Ragnarok"...against Marik, which let him resummon all the monsters in his graveyard for one all-out attack. To this day, that seemed like a "run 3 of those and play them the microsecond you draw it" card, even in the context of the show. Yet (unless it was used in a much later season) it was never used again.

Yea Joey had the best character arc in the entire show IMO and when you say burned alot of oppurtunities I felt this was the biggest because in the Orichalcos saga I loved that Joey was bascially facing all his previous opponents and I felt okay this is gonna end with him and Kaiba...since he first ended up in a stalemate with Mai , showing his growth as a duelist then went onto beat Rex....only one missing was Bandit Keet before I thought he would eventually duel Kaiba...if not during the saga then challenge him after the major villan was defeated.
Too bad after this everyone but the 2 Yugis and Bakura become the Yamchas of the series and really don't get to do anything.

Well... truth being told, most of the show was filler to show off cards, even if some of them didn't make it into the TCG. Most character arcs happened as the show went along (and most glaring the uselessness of characters like Friendship Is Tea, Serenity, Duke Devlin (worship him, will'ya?) and Tristan Tayl*explosion*) with no real plan. Heck, little Yugi has what? 5 episodes dedicated to him besides the final duel? And he's the co-star of the show!
They should make a whole series about Kaiba, though. Maybe that will start with the movie that's coming up!
