but Disney only distribute the studio ghibli films? He's only doing the Ghibli films that Disney distributed. So no Castle of Cagliostro

The Black Hole in general had a very dated feel to it. It was made in 1979 but just everything about it, including the special effects, felt more like something from the early-60's. A horrible attempt to make in a post-Star Wars world.

It's a shame that he probably won't be covering Grave of the Fireflies since that was distributed by Central Park Media. I guess you could argue one a technicality since Disney owns the distribution rights in Japan.

Man, that BLACK HOLE review would've hurt several years ago, but he's absolutely right. It really was trying to be every single other sci-fi franchise of the time. Talk about a true product of the Disney Dark Ages.... Having watched it earlier this year for the first time in at least a decade it has absolutely aged horribly (though I nevered minded the matte shots, which help make it look wonderful), and I spent more time griping about all the places where they could've been a plot than I did enjoying the entirety of it. But still, somehow the movie grabbed me when I was a kid (when other movies like this would've bored the everloving piss out of me) and I do still enjoy a lot of it, so I credit it for that and still appreciate it on some level.

{Spoiler}Well, that sucks. DICK TRACY is always worth a watch whenever I randomly find it on TV.

Have to agree with him. Dick Tracy is a great film to watch, on a visual level. On pretty much all other levels, it's about as one-note as you can get.

Considering how much he loves the flying scenes in Ghiblis work, I can't wait to see his reaction to Porco Rosso. I think that should be the next one that he does.

It's funny, the way Doug describes how everyone has that one film they just really have a soft spot for. For me, it's Polar Express, saw it in High School and I make sure to watch it every year during Christmas Season since. Considering how much he loves the flying scenes in Ghiblis work, I can't wait to see his reaction to Porco Rosso. I think that should be the next one that he does. Porco Rosso is my second favorite Miyazaki film. Watched it for the first time earlier this year an there was something just really charming about it.
