FAN Idol Season IX has concluded and we have our newest FAN Idol, Orangeutan! He joins Widow's Peak, Anonymous GM, Pegasus Warrior, Square, and Z-A Sandbaggin' Son of a b!% h as only the sixth winner of this incredibly challenging, yet engrossing game. So, talk about Orangeutan, along with the incredibly talented runner-up, Felicity Smoak and the Season over-all here. Favorite categories, favorite song choices and elimination moments, inflate my ego about the write-ups, etc. We might discuss the future of FAN Idol, as well as it's spin-off game, The World Series of Pop Culture as well. Idol threads here: officialfan.proboards.com/thread/482682/idol-round-phase-songs-writeupofficialfan.proboards.com/thread/484982/thread-round-finale-winner-revealed

Dunno if I'm breaking any forum rules here, but quoting my post at the end of the Fan Idol thread... Saving all of my thoughts for the wrap-up thread, but I will say that Felicity presented a hell of a final song-list and she probably deserved to win more than me! Dude, I'm happy for you. Happy as heck. You're a Forum Games participant from its onset, and I know (or I feel like I know) how much you love this section of the Forums. I'm glad you got your due, because this game has been a hodgepodge of emotions for you throughout your many seasons. I'm glad you got your chance to shine. You're a good dude. --------------------------------------- Roxie/Felicity, I don't want to sell you short. You know how big of a supporter I am. LOVE your choices so much that it's almost unfair to a certain degree when I have to judge. It's like you've got my number when it comes to so many of your choices. Please don't ever leave games like this. It's as much about sharing interests and tastes as it is anything else, and if getting people to mark-out is even a fraction of your goals in these games, then know that it is well worth it from this guy's point-of-view. You rock.

great season. introduced to many new songs as a judge. I know many people weren't fans of the rotating panel of judging even going as far to demean us. Although at times the role of a judge seemed thankless, I stuck with it, and take some pride in being the last of the original panel. Never took it personally, as I was always amongst the first to get my rankings in ,and can say that I wasn't partial. The best thing about being a judge, is that it gives you the itch to play again. Let me know what's next fan idol X or pop culture, I'm in. Congrats to both Orange and Felicty Smoak, that was a final for the ages. Skin and Bones vs Black Betty may be the best head to head match up I've witnessed in this game.

Congrats to Orange and thanks to everyone for all the kind words. With that said, I'm bowing out of this whole shindig. It's been a time (times two). Prayers in my pocket And no hand in destiny I'll keep on movin' along With no time to plant my feet...

If anything, it might be time for Roxie Daggers to take her place in the judge's booth.
No idea what's going to happen next. I think that we've reached the point where a bunch of new people can take the place of a lot of the old timers, who can do other things in games or act as judges or host.
Definitely want to see who hosts next and I think we should take our time again before starting another one, putting it on hiatus. We've added an unbelievable amount of music to the song list, we've played nearly non-stop, and I came up with a lot of new categories. Someone's going to have a lot of fun taking apart, stealing and changing and adding to what I came up with, checking out the past categories, and coming up with their own and that'll take some time.

I'll echo fw91's hope that Felicity is just burnt out rather than being done completely; you're way too good of a player to be 100% done, so whenever we do this again (which I'll completely understand if that's a ways down the road given how long this game went on) I hope to see you! I'm obviously very excited to have finally won a game that I've participated in many, many times, but going through the final post I was going nuts; mainly because Felicity picked a couple of my personal favorites with "The Chain" and "Stranglehold". I believe that choice of songs to be the toughest I've ever gone up against, so major props to you, Smoak. To Pegasus - thank you very much for the kind words! I do indeed love this section of the forum, and it's been awesome to participate in so many games; especially with you what with Mafia and such. I will say this, though - I am retiring from FAN Idol. My one goal, as is the case with any player, was to win a game, and I knew that if I could do that I'd want to go out on top. However, I am still in love with the game, so whoever does the next game (and can we just take a minute and thank Tyger for his ridiculous effort into making this game the absolute best it could be? You did a hell of a job, man - best we've ever had!) I'd absolutely love a spot at the judges table!

You did a fantastic job judging last season Orange, so there is that. Plus, you never did go full ape man in the Season storyline, so you should have enough presence of mind to judge. No idea on time tables or anything else. I do have a lot to say about the format next time, much of it that will reflect what Peg and Jazzman have said in terms of Rounds, judging, elimination and I definitely want to encourage the next Host, whoever that is, to consider them. Also, I think next Season should have greater interaction between judges and the host, with the judges even coming up with some of the regular season rounds. I think that would add a bunch to the game.

It appeared that you definitely had your favorite genres and time periods and rewarded players when they targeted them but you were also able to be flexible in your judging. People had a good idea of how to play towards you but they couldn't predict how you would judge. You also came up with a couple of very good categories to boot.

Y'know after my aborted run as a Judge two seasons ago, I was kinda thinking that I wouldn't be taken all that seriously when I volunteered to step in during the "Going Solo" Round.
Good thing I was. I'd have to say my musical horizons were broadened considerably by this experience, and I wanna thank Tyger for letting me jump in.
Though I will say that I'm already raring to go for Season X. I'd rather like to improve on my sixth-out finish.

Maybe we'll see a FAN Idol: Waffel House edition at some point.

This was quite the game. I never would've guessed once we got to the final four that Orangutan would be the last man/ape standing, but to his credit he proved me wrong. So I'll say again very well done.
As for my own performance as a contestant, I will say that a few of my choices were a bit lacking, and some categories I couldn't come up with anything so I just went with the first thing that popped into my head that fit while others I had to research a little in order to find the perfect choice. Things especially got tough once we got to submitting two and even three songs per round.
I'd never played before, but it was definitely an eye-opener just how difficult it is to win this game, or even do well at it. It requires alot of effort on your part as well as a bit of luck at times. And the sing-off aspects, I'll admit, were some of the most stressful parts just because you never knew how things were going to pan out.
And then later on when I jumped on board to help with judging, that was also an enlightening experience. When you sit down and listen to all these songs people come up with it really makes you think so you can make the best decision. There were tons of songs I struggled with in terms of where they should place. But at the same time it gives you a bit more appreciation for music in general, and I think that's really the point of this game. Well that and to have fun, of course.
I don't know if I'll play as a contestant or judge next time around, but now that I've experienced it, it does make me curious to see just how much better I can do next time around in either respect.

For the record, I'm sorry for putting everyone through this hell Now that's a ringing endorsement for this and next Season!!! It's a game Cage, don't worry about it. Sure, there were ups and downs, but you were going through a lot, still have things you have to deal with, and you had to take care of them. That said, I think we can all agree that, if there are to be future FAN Idols, there should be a changing of the guard in terms of who Hosts and judges, and, to a degree, who plays. We have a ton of members here and it'll help Games to grow and attract new people. New people means new music and new interaction, new categories and twists and turns. It's not that we should be put out to pasture but some of the people who judged this Season could potentially host in the future. Someone like Knailsic, who's shown interest in hosting, could do so after judging. The format could change, the hosting style change, the people playing, and so on. Nothing wrong with changing things up as we go and keeping it fresh. It's a game. There's a lot of history involved, personalities interacting over the seasons, highs and lows, but it's also something that everyone on this forum can be a part of. It's a legacy game at this point. I don't have to Host, people like Pegasus Warrior and Widow's Peak don't have to judge, and players can come and go. It's gotten to a point where we could conceivably do smaller Seasons of all new players as well as All-Star games. That's something to consider too.

Hey! Hey! Can I be a judge in the next one?! I've been a contestant several times but never a judge (except as a guest for a single round in one contest) and I'd love to try the seats at the other end of the stage!
