Dude is going to get wrecked unless he's in there with complete scrubs. Ill be watching for sure though. Well he should be starting from the bottom of the rankings anyway and earning the right to fight anyone half decent.

Dana, let's do it at the Chicago football stadium, I won't check leg kicks and I'll tap on his first sub attempt. I would pay for this fight just for the promos leading up to it.

Well, UFC has gone full PRIDE now. I always liked PRIDE way more anyway. It was always entertaining if nothing else.

I love ya Punk but this is ridiculous.
Don't know shit about UFC but I'm also guessing it's some sort of publicity thing. Maybe Punk will just fight once. Please don't die, man.

I completely don't understand the criticism. Punk has been teasing for a while now that he'd like to give mma a shot and now, as long as he fights, he's putting his money where his mouth is. I highly doubt he'll be making all types of excuses if he were to lose, I believe he'd own it. So why the hell not wait and see how it plays out?

It's already been said quite a few times, but yeah...
He's going to get the hell beaten out of him.

I highly doubt he'll be making all types of excuses if he were to lose, I believe he'd own it. So why the hell not wait and see how it plays out? Here's why: UFC is the top MMA league in the world. It shouldnt be this easy for ANYONE to get into the UFC without having proven themselves adept at the sport. Punk has no professional MMA experience. He's getting in on name recognition. However, I understand and admit that Brock got in the same way, so in that respect there is a precedent. However, Brock at least had a successful amateur wrestling background. Punk's most notable for running his mouth and having great choreographed matches. I don't fault Punk for trying and while I don't think he will have much success, thats besides the point. My ire goes more to Dana White, as while I also completely understand his reasoning for bringing Punk onboard, it's a real disservice to the guys on the outside looking in who have already proven themselves to have the ability and wherewithal to compete in the UFC. By this alone it's a stunt.

I understand it from the perspective that a lot of MMA fans think it's a joke, and it's hard to blame them. As someone who has no interest in the sport, it doesn't bother me either way. Although, if he actually manages to fight and win, even against the UFC version of the Brooklyn Brawler, or whoever, the Punk fellators around here are going to be more insufferable than ever.

No sour grapes, just being realistic. I don't see how judging how well he will or won't do before we even see a training video is realistic but maybe I'm just an optimist. Punk strikes me as a pretty tough individual with a lot of drive and focus, I don't see how he won't see at least a modicum of success in this field if he goes all in. Then again, UFC has been handing sweetheart fights to guys they wanna promote anyway so Punk will likely fight a bunch of jabronis until UFC can justify giving him a title shot. Weren't you JUST saying we shouldn't write off this guy transitioning to a whole new sport, then go on to call guys who have already been professionals in this sport "jabronis"? That seems a little questionable, respectably.

Although I'm immediately jumping the gun by saying, " Holy shit, he's gonna get creamed in minutes", if this is true, I'd like to see his MMA debut. Just hope his debut doesn't go the Brass Body Batista did.

"To all that said let CM Punk be ,saying he's not a fighter. Well he's in UFC now and never responded to me. Good for him that's cool. Cant wait to see him fight. There goes my chance BOOOO lol. JDF"

This is weird....
Like Michael Jordan: minor league baseball player. Except major leagues, and if you're not good you get the living shit beaten out of you.

Guys, UFC has always been about publicity. It's the WWE of the MMA world. They know how to market themselves better than any other MMA business.
We'll see how he does, but based on everything he has said WWE believed he would do, this is a big F*** You to them. They said he would go to TNA, he didn't. They wanted to put a no compete for UFC even though Vince doesn't see them as competition, he is going there to do exactly that.
Will he succeed and make WWE look like asses or make himself look like an ass? We'll see, but like others have said, he does have the training to get this done (training with the Gracies is not a freaking picnic since they tend to be freaking legit).
Good on him to try.

If you don't think he's gonna get his ass kicked you need to re-evaluate.

Well this is up to page 6 and the UFC post for tonight's show is at 2 pages. That shows why they signed him. Don't see it ending well for him however.

We'll see, but like others have said, he does have the training to get this done (training with the Gracies is not a freaking picnic since they tend to be freaking legit). Good on him to try. This is the modern equivalent of a big time WWE star going to WCW. TNA is not and never was even WCW. This is WWE's real competition and they know it and hes going to bring the people that loved him in WWE to UFC. IMO it wont be that big of a deal because not every WWE fan likes MMA. However, I don't think its fair to say UFC is the WWE of the MMA world. It's not an apt comparison simply because only one of the two is actually decided by the competitors in the ring. UFC is the NFL of the MMA world. They're the big leagues that every fighter wants to fight for because of the money and recognition that go along with being a top fighter in UFC. WWE is closer to entertainment than sport simply because the competitions are staged. I also completely understand that UFC are in this to make money and Dana has a LOT in common with Vince. However, this is a disservice to UFC in the respect that someone with name recognition can get a big fight (because no matter if he fights Glass Joe, Punk's debut will be huge) just because they want to "give it a shot". At least with Brock he had the background and had proven himself, even just a little bit, in amateur wrestling. He had a pedigree that a lot of MMA fighters had. Punk's trained with this guy and that guy in this and that, but he's never had an MMA fight. Just because he's CM Punk he gets a shot at the big time because he wants to? Its a disservice to the sport. Even Brock had to try out for the NFL. Hell, another comparison is boxing. Mickey Rourke wanted to become a pro boxer in the middle of his acting career. His first fight wasn't on an undercard of a PPV or against a big named fighter. Punk is getting his chance to "give it a shot" on the biggest stage the sport has to offer. Kudos to him for taking it, I don't blame him, but Dana White just buried the rest of the UFC with this move.

Are we seriously seeing a veiled "Pro wrestlers aren't as tough as MMA fighters!" thread right now? It's not like he's going to be competing above his weight class, he had BJJ training before he left WWE and there's no telling how much more he's done since he left. He's got a shot at being a decent competitor but no, let's write him off on account of sour grapes. With his injuries, no MMA experience, or amateur wrestling, it doesn't look good for him. Exactly. A 36 year old dude with a lot of 'mileage' in regards to being injured (I mean hell, the skull fracture alone would be enough to give one pause, and the concussions, and..) who's never fought professionally? Again, unless they put him in there with a total bum, things aren't gonna go well for punk. Sour grapes has nothing to do with it. I'd dare say most of us are fans of the dude, but let's be a little realistic as well. If I'm wrong, great, more power to him. It seems like a really bad idea.

I'm not about to pay that phony lip service and be like "oh, wow, cool, he's living his dream, so awesome." This is a complete farce. He is not at all good enough to compete at that level just because he did his BJJ classes on weekends and wore a Gracie hoodie to the ring. It's like some of his fans bought a little too much into his kayfabe martial arts training or something, haha. He's either going to get his ass kicked, get fed lousy cans and still barely pull out a win a la Batista, or we'll see how UFC is more worked than WWE.
