Reading a response in the Smashing Pumpkins thread about how some artists are a cut above, because they do go a step beyond and make quality songs or put effort into those that may never get played on the radio inspired this thread.
Sometimes an artist mails it in on certain albums and other times, the artist really goes out of their way.
ABBA for instance-while you might not like every song, Benny & Bjorn's approach was why make an album with filler? So they put a lot of effort into every song.
The Beatles are an obvious choice as well, even thought John said they had some throwaway songs here and there, but he was a bit dismissive of their work often times.
So by your account, what are some albums with the most/worst filler or the least filler/ best songs?

This is, generally, true with a person's favorite bands. If you're huge into a band, chances are... you'll end up liking most of their stuff, unless they like to throw random crap on their albums like spoken word parts, pointless intros, or skits.

Metallica's "Master of Puppets" contains absolutely no filler. If it's there, I sure as hell can't hear it.

Most radio rock albums are one single and 11 filler songs.
I think California from Mr. Bungle has a second half of filler, despite having an all time great first half.
Escape and Trapped Under Ice are sort of filler to me on Ride the Lightning
I like to think the Fidlar s/t has no filler on it.

Escape and Trapped Under Ice are sort of filler to me on Ride the Lightning I don't know why, but I almost love Escape due to the hate surrounding it. If you look up a live performance of it, they never hide how much they hate it (Or James certainly doesn't). But yeah, I would definitely agree that Escape sticks out like a sore thumb on that album. You have songs about a nuclear apocalypse, capital punishment, depression, and... Then there's Escape.

Guns n' Roses have ALOT of filler in their catalogue...chinese democracy has 2 fillers to me, "scraped" and "riad and bedouins" everything else was pretty quality (thank you buckethead!) but man...those illusions albums are full of fillers...stuff like "my world" "garden of eden" "you aint the first" "shotgun blues" "get in the ring" "the garden" "right next door to hell" "so fine" all i can think of at the top of my head...AFD has one filler to me and thats "anything goes"

Mike Doughty's album Haughty Melodic is literally the only album I have ever heard that has zero filler on it.
