WrestleMania 11 - I was surprised when Owen Hart and Yokozuna were getting cheered after winning the Tag Team Championship. They were Heels!

The fans were really into Sid turning on Shawn Michaels, even though that was the start of HBK's face turn.

Sid eliminating Hogan in the 1992 Royal Rumble. We were supposed to sympathise with Hogan being turned on by his ally but the crowd LOVED IT.

Fans cheered the Freebirds over the Youngblood brothers, even though the Freebirds had just committed a dastardly act against Robert Gibson.

WrestleMania 17. I guess the crowd was meant to hate Austin turning heel

Wrestlemania 18 - Hogan vs Rock. They did not expect Hogan to be cheered that big. Wrestlemaina 22 - Mickie vs Trish. Mickie got most of the face chants, even though she was clearly the heel.

Wrestlemania 18 - Hogan vs Rock. They did not expect Hogan to be cheered that big. To this day I don't believe this. They can't seriously have thought Hogan would be booed there? And against Rock? Either that or they're dumber than I thought.

Jim Cornette. Dynamic Dudes.
I could probably name a score of examples when WCW went to Philly too.

Either that or they're dumber than I thought. If you watch the match, Hogan initially works it as a heel. Eventually, though, him and the Rock switch roles completely. It is part of the reason I love the match so much.

I just thought of another one: NOT booing heel Del Rio.

Yeah he does but he'd had big face responses the whole of his return to that point, plus it's friggin' Hogan in his first match, and at Mania. There was no chance they were cheering Rock over Hogan. But you're right, they do start Hogan as a heel. Which means it must be my second option - they're dumber than I thought. Although I always thought Hogan telling Nash and Hall not to come down because he had to do it on his own as a precursor to his face turn anyway.

I don't recall Sid ever being booed in WWF/E, outside a few times as Sid Justice. But certainly not at the Rumble 92 Did Sid ever go up against Ricky Steamboat? Because I would love to see who would the fans would cheer harder for.

I think they had him start as the heel with the intention he'd change it up, or else they wouldn't have drawn such attention to it during the match. I doubt they called an audible and changed booking on their own, but like you said, he did tell them not to come to the ring with him, so I imagine they knew. If he started the match as a face, I'd be mighty confused how that'd make sense in kayfabe.

Fans booed Muhammad Hassan for speaking out against the blind discrimination that muslims experienced in the wake of 9/11.
Thankfully, many audiences at WWE shows have booed the hell out of John Cena despite him being a face.
