The Colbert finale could not have been better. The musical number ruled, and him throwing it back to Stewart was lovely.
I'm so sad about the end of The Late Late Show. There has never been a show like Craig Ferguson's, and I'm sure there never will be again. Just complete off the wall fun while flaunting the conventions of the late night talk format. And at the same time, he's produced some amazing heartfelt moments because of his honesty.
I have high hopes for the finale. There's so much I'd like to see happen, so I wonder what he does. It'll be sad in the end, I know that much.

Josh has also done the Craftwerk segments, and when the camera would shift, you could see him in the puppet scenes they did earlier in the year... and some other, random things. But, yeah, this was the most they've shown him on screen at once.

Was never a Colbert fan, but I did watch from time to time. Let's see how I do when Letterman steps down. This is the final year of Jay Thomas getting to tell his "Best Talk Show Story Ever", though I'd be happy if Colbert kept it up, but it's his show soon, he needs his owns things.

I've mainly watched Craig Ferguson online, and really only started watching in January of this year (I've seen him in scant passing over the years) - but I'll be damned if I'm gonna miss his last show tonight. I really wish I'd given him a chance years ago...
Colbert? Eh.

The Colbert Report finale was bittersweet. I loved seeing everyone show up for it from celebrities to pundits to politicians to even the current Chief of Staff of the Army General Ray Odierno.

First time I haver ever seen the guy who plays Geoff Peterson It seemed surreal for the seemingly unaging Jim Parsons to comment on how young he looked, but he really does look like someone fresh out of college, not pushing 40. Also, I find it really hard to believe that was actually his mom. She could have been a young teen mom and would still have to be north of 50. She really did not look it at all.

Amazing how much impact Colbert has had on popular culture. Got a treadmill on the space station, a species of spider, and a Ben and Jerry flavor named after him. Sponsored a US Olympic team. Staged a million person rally in our nation's capital. He's done it all.

I'm so glad America is taking James Corden off Britain's hands. Hopefully one day, they'll take Simon Cowell again too. As for Colbert, I've never been a fan of the character, because its largely redundant. He's parodying right wing TV pundits, but they are so extreme, they are effectively self-parodies. To mock them, you'd need to be more extreme than they are, which Colbert's character isn't. A better example would be Joad Cressbeckler on The Onion News Network, which takes the angry right wing commentator persona to hilariously extreme levels. That's not a better example at all. The reason Colbert worked as well as he did was that he actually fooled a ton of people into believing he was serious, and he was doing it constantly. The fact that he got so huge that he was able to head the Correspondent's Dinner and was even a borderline Presidential Candidate showed how good he truly was. You'd have to be insane to not know Colbert is a parody. If the character exists to fool idiots, then yes it works. If it's to mock right wing pundits, it doesn't.

Never became an avid watcher, but I enjoyed Stephen's show whenever I tuned in. I hope he does very well when takes over Letterman's show.

The few times my mom's side of the family brought up Colbert, they literally thought that he shared their conservative views and thought I was being an idiot when I tried to point out to them that it was a parody. They can't be the only ones who don't get it. If anything, discussing Colbert is what made me give up trying to discuss anything of a political nature with my family. Sucks being the only "dirty commie godless liberal" at the table on the holidays.

I am sort of the same way, but most of my arguments for my views are based on logic and my family, conservative as they are, for the most part can respect that. Not everyone automatically assumes that people with opposing viewpoints are either complete morons unworthy of your attention or evil to the core and desperately in need of smiting.

I'd love for logical arguments to work with my family but they don't. Fox News is the their truth, and they don't want to be told anyone else's. I would ask them to use logic to defend their viewpoints and support it with facts. Some conservative viewpoints can be supported and some cannot (and I will not discuss which are which). The same can be said of liberal viewpoints, which is part of why we don't actually discuss specific political viewpoints on these forums. The other part is that people don't tend to debate based on logic usually. It is way too easy to belittle those who disagree with you than to engage them in a civil, open debate.

Time for this emotionless igneous news rock to close this chapter on his career. I'm assuming you're talking about Colbert and feel the need to point out that the way he showed his emotions was a huge part of the character that he was playing. I'm a huge fan of Colbert, but, like a few others here, I'm worried about his transition. He has everything it takes to be great but he will absolutely be typecast as the ultra-conservative. Even the people who know it was a character (read: everyone) will still find it jarring. I'm just hoping for his sake that they don't find it so much so that they tune out. I really wish he could have just taken his character and put him in as the host of the Late Show...
