Yeah, I tried to be as noncommittal as possible but felt like I might have been walking up to the line even if I had not crossed it. Maybe we could talk about how hot Josh Robert Thompson's mom was on Craig's show last night instead?
OK. Maybe we should stay away from that as well.
Do you all think Craig will do one last musical number with the puppets tonight?

I really wish he could have just taken his character and put him in as the host of the Late Show... I don't. The problem with the character is that it works in the confines of the Colbert Report but not on your average late night show. Matt Damon may be game to play along when he plugs his movies, but I suspect that many others would not. Besides, some of the best moments from late night television were sincere and raw moments. It is not possible to have those and do the character, I should think.

I really don't want the Colbert Report to end and that would be my way of having it continue (albeit in a totally different form). Between that and the shock that I think a few people are going to have, like I said, I'm concerned.

Time for this emotionless igneous news rock to close this chapter on his career. I'm assuming you're talking about Colbert and feel the need to point out that the way he showed his emotions was a huge part of the character that he was playing. I'm a huge fan of Colbert, but, like a few others here, I'm worried about his transition. He has everything it takes to be great but he will absolutely be typecast as the ultra-conservative. Even the people who know it was a character (read: everyone) will still find it jarring. I'm just hoping for his sake that they don't find it so much so that they tune out. I really wish he could have just taken his character and put him in as the host of the Late Show... Haha no, I was quoting Colbert himself. Right before the series finale, Jon was throwing it to Stephen as he does at the end of the Daily Show, and asked Colbert if he was feeling emotional, and he said "no, I am an emotionless, igneous news rock". I really think he'll nail the transition. He knows that he cant' do that character, and so do the producers of the Late Show. He can still do his hilarious voice-over work and stuff like that. I think he'll do great ratings too, I know I'll be watching the Late Show on purpose for the first time in...forever.

All I see here in Kiwiland is the Colbert Report (and I have to pull some strings to see that). Thanks for the info.

Craig Ferguson opened with his own celebrity musical number, and it was fantastic.

"No, if you stop being fat you will stop being funny".
Not as touching an ending as Colbert, but it fit Ferguson very well, no structure, insanity and sincerity.

And it ends with Bob Newhart as Secretariat, and Mr. Wick waking up from a bad dream next to "fat & funny" Drew Carey.
Don't stop--
Seriously, though, that opening song was amazing. Like, every guest from the last 2 months was involved. And Wavy, and Sid.

For whatever reason my DVR decided not to record, so I missed everything at the beginning.

The song was great, and he had a nice touching speech as I expected. I wanted to see the puppets again and have another lip sync, so that made me happy. The ending was super cool, especially with how many shows and their endings they managed to reference.
Craig was right, he did create art. There will never be a show like this again, so this is really a downer.

For whatever reason my DVR decided not to record, so I missed everything at the beginning. At times over the last year I've wished that I'd watched Craig A LOT more over the past 9 years.......but if I had, I'd have been loudly crying thru this whole opening. Absolutely joyous. I want everything I love on TV to end like this.

Craig Ferguson is the funniest man alive and I hope that he has a lot more success than this show.
I also fear for James Corden, guy is funny but whilst Craig had the off the wall stuff James' main hosting stock is banter which doesn't work well in America
