I used to just leave the marathon on for the 24 hour period in the background, then I bought the DVD and only pop it in maybe twice a year.
I miss just watching the marathons...

I wish Christmas Vacation got a marathon instead.
I always hated A Christmas Story. Then again, I hated Bob Clark movies in general.

I can see why people think it's overexposed now, but the Scut Farkus stuff is still great.

I no longer have cable, so it all depends on where I'm at on Christmas Day if I watch the marathon at all. If I do get someplace else, I end up watching it at least once.

Christmas Story was a forgotten movie that became a cult classic thanks to TBS, a new-ish network at the time, airing it as a marathon. Likely because the rights were cheap.

A Christmas Story I think is a good movie but I do think it's very overrated. Every year when I got to one side of the family's house, they will run the marathon and yell at anyone that tries to change it because it's such an amazing holiday movie and at this point I'm insanely burn out of it. I do wish another station would do a different marathon like Christmas Vacation or something like that. It's a good movie but after you seen it once, there's no point seeing it again.

This is my dad's favorite movie. I wouldn't say I even like the movie myself but we always leave the marathon on for its entirety. It doesn't really feel like Christmas without it.

It's not the same. Damn those complete, not crunched nor sped up credits! My problem with the DVD is that they've used the SAME one for all the releases to this day. Same commentary, same special features...with Blu-ray and all, aren't there more unseen tidbits and items to see? Not quite. Long before the marathon, it picked up steam on cable in general, and on VHS.

I thought it started running the marathons on TNT first.

To me this is THE Christmas movie.
I have loved it since I was a 6. It has not aged a day to me. When I was growing up I'd always think "It's a Wonderful Life" is no good. Why do they show it ALL the time at Christmas. Then TNT started doing the marathon and I have seen it at LEAST once every year since. Because of my feelings about IAWL I understand the people saying "Why?" and "it's not the best Christmas move ever"...to each his own.
4AM-6AM EST showing ALL DAY BABY!!!

I remember last year where they ran a version for the vision-impaired in which some woman described everything happening on screen.
Not sure exactly why though because none of the other runnings I saw showed said version.

I love it, one of my top two favorite Christmas movies (the other one being the George C. Scott Christmas Carol). However, I'm not a hardcore fan. I pop the DVD in, watch it with Mom, and don't need to see it for the rest of the year. If I catch it during the marathon, I might stop and watch for a few minutes, but usually I'm too busy.

Christmas Story was a forgotten movie that became a cult classic thanks to TBS, a new-ish network at the time, airing it as a marathon. Likely because the rights were cheap. Sort of makes me think of how It's a Wonderful Life became an institution due to being affordable for stations to air, and became arguably one of THE Christmas films/stories. If you think about it, It's a Wonderful Life tributes might be only beat out by Christmas Carol for blatant ripoffs/faithful homages for Christmas episodes of shows. So many shows have done it.

I thought it started running the marathons on TNT first. Yes it did, then it moved to TBS because "Very Funny".

I love the movie and I remember watching it when I was a little kid. Every year I have to watch it once.
