My thoughts on the movie are that it's meh. I do wish another station would do a different marathon like Christmas Vacation or something like that. It's a good movie but after you seen it once, there's no point seeing it again. A few years ago AMC did a Home Alone marathon, and last year Starz (I believe) did an Arthur Christmas marathon.

A network eventually needs to start airing Friday After Next marathons. Pinky and Money Mike are just as timeless and important to the holidays as the mall Santa and the leg lamp.

Didnt the show Mickey Mouse during the parade scene? I understand the Wizard of Oz characters (MGM made both films), but Disney isnt exactly that generous with their characters.

Christmas Story was a forgotten movie that became a cult classic thanks to TBS, a new-ish network at the time, airing it as a marathon. Likely because the rights were cheap. Sort of makes me think of how It's a Wonderful Life became an institution due to being affordable for stations to air, and became arguably one of THE Christmas films/stories. If you think about it, It's a Wonderful Life tributes might be only beat out by Christmas Carol for blatant ripoffs/faithful homages for Christmas episodes of shows. So many shows have done it. Yeah, I Was going to say this. It's a wonderful life was a miserable failure... until the error with the copyrights made it super cheap to air... so constantly airing it pretty much turned it into an instant classic. As for Christmas Story... eh... it's alright. I don't hate it (like my father does) but I don't love it... and I really don't get the idea of the 24 hour marathon. But I never liked marathons that only show the same thing back to back to back. If I just watched something I don't really feel the need to see it again so soon afterwards.

I like the movie well enough, and I think it does a good job of capturing some parts of childhood quite well, though that's probably due to the source material. That said, I probably since it like once every 3-5 years and that's fine for me. It's not one of my go-to Christmas movies.
(Muppet Christmas Carol, Die Hard, Home Alone 1&2, Nightmare Before Christmas, and some others) I do want to see Christmas Vacation again sometime soon, I don't think I've seen since I was like 10, tops.

We got, like, four VHS tapes of that film at my house. We watch it all the time. Still holds up.

"Gremlins" begs to differ. As for the movie, I loved it when I was younger, and haven't stopped since. Despite the "It's Popular, Now it Sucks" sentiments. I was there before it was cool!

Christmas just isn't Christmas without A Christmas Story.

I love A Christmas Story because a lot of the things in the movie I can relate to. My only problem was the leg lamp which seemed a little stupid. I seriously doubt anyone would put the ugly looking thing in their window.
Didn't TBS or TNT use to alternate between A Christmas Story and It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas day?

While legitimately a classic, I could go probably nearly a decade without having to watch it again.

There's other Christmas movies I like more, but not watching the marathon at this point would just feel wrong to me. It's part of Christmas for my family. I never see the whole thing during christmas, though. I usually end up catching a lot of the same parts during the marathon.

I've always wanted to lay on the couch by the tree and just keep the tv on all night and wake up at random points, but I have yet to do that

I wonder if it's starting to lose out to time.
A few years ago, there were products all over the place-particularly Wal Mart, and last year it celebrated it's 30th anniversary rather quietly.
I think Christmas Vacation is quickly becoming king, and then I suppose that will lose out to the Santa Clause series as the modern day classic (s)

I honestly never want to see this movie again. These stupid marathons have burnt me out for life.

I love Christmas Story and like others have said when you pop in a dvd of it when its not the holiday season it just doesn't feel the same. Also to me its not Christmas if you don't watch Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Home Alone 1 or 2, Charlie Brown & Garfield Christmas, or any of the Rankin Bass specials at least once during the holiday season.

He has the looks of Andre the Giant, and the strength of Barry Windham. Not to mention he's a hero to a few armadillos, a kangaroo and a small herd of bison.
