After 25 years of hype I think that it would have been anti-climatic no matter what he did.

Maybe it would be better if his big return wasn't him slowly waddling out and then trying to do an epic staredown with Triple H for five minutes that looks more like two old confused guys looking at each other, not sure where they are.

To me that came off as JBL being a fan of a legend's work. Few will ever argue Sting hasn't had a hell of a career. I expect a decent chunk of the dressing room were squeeing over him being there. Sure, but if Sting's appearance was supposed to be unexpected and shocking, why was JBL able to spew his Wikipedia facts within seconds rather than going crazy like everyone else was? I'm not blaming him as I'm sure it was Vince in his ear telling him to say that, but stuff like that takes steam away from a big debut/return. I guess they have no choice though as Cole's "Oh My" will be used as nauseum for everything, and that alone is cringe worthy since his delivery always comes off forced. Everything that comes after Cole's initial reaction is just adding on to the garbage announcing. For me, him listing off the accomplishments wasn't that crazy. People handle excitement different and there are some whose reaction is to literally list off accomplishments like they're a living stat report. I actually felt this was one of the few times that announce team was bang on with their reactions. They conveyed excitement, relayed info to younger audiences in what I felt was an organic way and added to the moment. But I know not everyone was a fan of it. Really though, I thought JBL's reaction was great especially since he's the heel announcer. For him to lose his crap over Sting and start crowing about his accomplishments? That's something.

I guess we can agree to disagree. I just didn't find it very organic. Much like everything else the WWE does, it felt very forced and condescending (i.e. telling us Sting's history as if the fans are too stupid to remember.....the young fans wouldn't care about how many WCW titles he won anyway since that company died nearly 15 years ago). That's one moment that needed Jim Ross, not necessarily because he could sell it (he could), but because he would have made it feel organic. Then again, I'm one of the few people who apparently thought Cole was infuriatingly bad during Mankind's title win, with his voice cracking and getting words relayed to him by JR. He's not very good at that moments, never has been, IMO.

If they don't find a way to make him relevant beyond Seth Rollins crying out his name (whispering, 'please beat me at Wrestlemania' beneath his breath) I'm going to be super bummed.
Sting was the best star to never step foot in the WWE. As of now, he's a footnote from a PPV. The road to Wrestlemania is a steep hill at the moment.

This is honestly exactly how I would have done it myself. There's still intrigue and anyone who no longer has any interest probably didn't have much to begin with. Sting showed up and killed the authority. So, baring an explanation (why are we owed one anyway?) he has no reason to be there. The bad guys were punished. IF Sting is to be this "Vigilante" than there needs to be a villainous person or group worthy of his ire. Right now we are still in happy times, the good guys won and we have to sit through guests hosts and junk. Now, once the time comes for Sting to return I wouldn't have it on Raw at all. I would leave clues about his return. Not hidden JJ Abrams ones, but obvious "Oh Shit Stings around. Surely he will be at the next ppv" type stuff. There should always be an explanation when something monumental happens, especially if you're going to be a part-timer. It's fine that Sting isn't on Raw every week (and I agree that it'd kill his character if he was), but you can't just have things happen for the sake of it. I get that most people know at least who Sting is, but aside from the fact he's never been in a WWE ring before, what's the point of caring long-term if they present him as just a guy that helps faces win? No storytelling is worse than bad storytelling. You would be right if Sting never shows up again. But he will and the story will unfold.

Perhaps you should have been a smart person and never watched TNA...
