I believe Ronda Rousey would be the equivalent.. So many people complain about the divas division, and if she came in, wrestled at NXT for a few months, came into the WWE and stood her ground, it'd be pretty awesome.
But it wouldn't need to be like one of those one-time things, you know? Even though I feel CM Punk dies in the UFC ring, Rousey shouldn't be those celebs that come in at Mania time, build up for a match, perform a couple moves and gets the win.

Granted, I couldn't give a shit about UFC, but I don't see the big deal with Punk going there. It's a real sport, so he'll probably get destroyed, people will stop caring, he'll probably just say 'done that, didn't work out, onto the next thing' and it'll all be over just like that, with UFC having made a ton of money and maybe won new fans out of it who stick around. He's not gonna be main eventing shows or challenging for belts, he's gonna be facing some scrub, surely? And even the bottom-rungers of UFC are still seasoned fighters, so if he does beat one, maybe he's not so out his depth as people think? Either way, the fact it is a legitimate athletic competition means he'll be either found out as not up to it or will surprise people and prove himself capable. It's impossible to compare that scenario to something entirely predetermined.

I'm going to say the only one is Rousey. She has a strong following and enough charisma that it would probably translate well to the wrestling world.
In his prime I think Tito Ortiz could have had a decent buzz but his main contributions to MMA were 10 years ago.

I think Carmello Anthony is a good answer. Punk going to UFC is more like another pro athlete coming to WWE. Carmello is a good comparison I think.

They should hire Dana White. White vs McMahon at Wrestlemania.

They should hire Dana White. White vs McMahon at Wrestlemania. Well Dana already acts like Vince McMahon the TV character, so why not?

It has to be GSP. He's kind of in the CM Punk position of walking away and having heat with the company. He was also one of the biggest draws UFC had. Am I really the first to mention him? People seem to be posting answers unrelated to the question. I think people are reading the question two different ways. The way I and some others took it is that it's asking for the newsworthiness-level of such a theoretical event, others seem to be answering it with both sides' equivalent experience/talent levels being part of the equation. And I agree it would be GSP as the closest current equivalent in terms of sending waves. Last guy before him that would have been that level, I'd have to say Couture.

Yes, I interpreted this topic to be asking us to think of someone whose theoretical signing with WWE would be the closest to Punk's signing with UFC. That's what I thought the OP meant by 'equivalent,' meaning the OP wanted us to try to come up with the closest possible comparison. With that in mind, I looked at Punk as a big WWE star who suddenly left wrestling and who has a bit of a rocky relationship with WWE. Then he signs with UFC and it's pretty big news. Likewise it would be big news in the MMA and wrestling world if GSP signed with WWE right now. It's not exactly the same, but GSP kind of fits this scenario as a former UFC figther. I was kind of surprised to be the first to bring him up and I couldn't really think of many former UFC fighters who were in a position like Punk's.

I can tell you from a Montreal insider's point of view, GSP to WWE is not that far-fetched. He's a fan. When he was a kid he idolized Hogan (In this city, didn't we all?!?) and then sort of went a different way and became a Shawn Michaels fan (Not so many of those...) He signed autographs at a Rougeau show at least once. He went to Comic Con in Montreal to meet Hogan and had a friendly stare down (well, stare up for him) with Cedric Rougeau, who was also signing there. He's not so old, he's healthy and clean, he would be an excellent representative for the company... however, you'd need to teach him the art from scratch. And then, they could book Lesnar VS GSP, a UFC match impossible for the UFC to run. Of course it would be a work. But it would be a battle between the ultimate bully and the ultimate bullying victim that took a stand. Would be a license to print money. You need no angle. Announce the match, training montages from both sides. Then a contract signing. No shenanigans. Match. Writes itself, prints money. Simple. EDIT: GSP approves the pythons, brother.
