I tried rain, a sound I love, but it didn't help. It's great for reading though.
Edit, changed to a thread on sleep in general.

Something like a boot stuck in mud, only wetter.

After about ten years of training my wife snoring in my left ear works like a charm

Not necessarily sounds like rain or anything but I usually sleep with a fan on that makes some noise so when I'm in a silent room I have a hard time sleeping.

I can fall asleep with it down pouring or a gentle cascade. Also the sound of waves crashing on a beach puts me to sleep

I have an app called soothing sounds and it usually works. I use a sound byte called "Essence of Peace" with either Rain or Brook.

We use a fan, & I sleep with a small transistor radio tuned to sports radio under my pillow every night. That's the only way I can sleep.

I sometimes listen to "Lights Out" on archive.org and I like it, but often fall asleep before the end. It's not that it's boring, but I guess it's like someone telling me a story to get me to go to sleep

The first 30 minutes of RAW often put me into a deep sleep
Thankfully I haven't watched since Survivor Series

You can get a white noise machine, to help you block out irritating sounds like tinnitus or WWE commentary.

Talk radio is my favored sleep aid, specifically call-in shows where half the people are absolute retards.
Failing that, a TV, a fan, rain plinking off the roof. Whatever, just, white noise. I struggle to relax in quiet darkness unless I'm wiped. Occasionally I'll go that route just for the change up, but ultimately I need something.

Not the traditional music, but if there is noise outside from traffic or dogs barking or an idiot in a nearby flat is been loud I always find putting the fan on lulls me to sleep. It's like a constant, soothing noise that just drowns everything else out.
Also, when I am on a plane, as long as people aren't talking the gentle, steady hum of jet engines sends me to... not sleep exactly since I can't sleep sitting upright but into a steady doze.

My GF needs dead quiet to sleep, while I much prefer noise (I've slept with my radio on at night ever since I was a kid), so I sleep with earphones in.
Normally, I'll listen to a podcast to put me to sleep.
I highly recommend Dan Carlin's Hardcore History for that. It's always an interesting topic and his voice stays at the perfect level for you to doze off.

Can't sleep on my back only in the position that helps you breathe after accidents.
Wish I knew why I keep waking at night but it could be my own farts for all I know.
Thinking of trying a sleep mask next.
