I'm not down on it, I haven't watched it since the first 3 or 4 seasons, but of all the things that have suffered or went away because of the internet, it seems amazing, especially with YouTube, that people still tune in to watch amateur videos on television.
It doesn't make a lot of sense-what kind of ratings are they getting?

youtube doesn't offer the chance to win money. Also the segments on the show can be amusing. Like when they put Toms head of people.

AFV has gone downhill ever since Bob Saget left. And in truth, it was never that good to begin with.
But apparently the masses can't get enough of cute animals and kids doing "funny" things like walking or falling down.

I think part of why I like watching stuff like that on youtube is a lack of shitty sound effects.

Very cheap to make and fills some time. That's really it.

As an aside, I've been thinking about America's Funniest people and I'm kinda surprised that wasn't on very long and they don't bring it back with the "cheap to produce" logic

"Here we have the runner up videos." AKA the funny ones. And the winner is always a clip of a baby.

Years ago, I wanted to send in a video of my friends and I kicking a soccer ball around, and I was going to tape a bag of fake blood to my leg and have them kick the ball there and bust it and I was going to have a mouthful of fake blood and walnuts I was going to spit out.
I think Bob Saget would appreciate it.

Of all the things that have suffered or went away because of the internet, it seems amazing, especially with YouTube, that people still tune in to watch amateur videos on television. It doesn't make a lot of sense-what kind of ratings are they getting? They get ratings from people who simply refuse to use computers or find out what the internet is about, like my parents. My mom sometimes uses a computer at work, but she will never, EVER use a computer at home for entertainment purposes. She doesn't want to go through the hassle of hooking a laptop up to her big screen TV; she'd rather just turn on the TV and watch whatever overpriced crap her cable company offers her. I bought her a Wii so she could use Netflix, but she said she found the process of turning the thing on, selecting the Netflix channel, and then finding something to watch too much trouble to bother with. She barely ended up using the Wii, so it became the final console I will ever own (Netflix looks like crap on the Wii, but at least I can play some amazing Nintendo exclusives like Super Mario Bros., Metroid, and Zelda).

I remember watching the first ever episode of AFV with Bob Saget and laughing hard. Then, every week it was pretty much the same thing. Grandpa's pants fall down. Dad gets hit in the crotch. Grandma falls in the pool. What's sad is these were the funnier ones, because most of them (usually the ones that won) were unfunny and obviously staged, or some amateur who thinks they're funny (but isn't) trying their hand at movie making.

youtube doesn't offer the chance to win money. Also the segments on the show can be amusing. Like when they put Toms head of people. You can monetize your videos, so it kinda does

Over here in the UK our version of this show is You've Been Framed, a family friendly clip show which is still going on aswell, although we also have a show called Rude Tube which has the best stuff from YouTube, which is alot more adult orientated.

I don't know, but I usually watch it on Netflix and even in the 5 or so they put up at a time there are repeat clips.
