They've had the same policy for others before (Benoit being the biggest example) without ever making any sort of announcement. Here's the thing though about controlling things: It's their show. It's their world-televised events done as a corporate entity to make money. They get to pick and choose what's allowed. It sucks and it's stupid beyond all belief, but it is what it is. That's apples and oranges. Chris Benoit murdered his whole family, anyone with a Benoit sign or t-shirt was doing it to troll. Well there's your answer then. Start off with a Punk shirt on, & when they ask you to remove it, put a Benoit shirt on. When they tell you to remove that one, put the Punk shirt back on then.

What if you show up naked? Wouldn't they be forced to give you leftover CM Punk gear?
Loophole, folks

There's a world of difference between "murderer of entire family" and "guy who walked out on the company to go to UFC". I think it's equal in the WWE Universe. (Kind of like how I used to joke that Vince wasn't mad that Randy Savage raped Steph, it's because he went to WCW and never asked to come back, which to him would be as bad as if he did rape his daughter)

and thus the whitewashing begins in force... Hey remember when Bob Holly won the WWE title from John Cena in Chicago and left the WWE? Ridiculous. We all know it was Stevie Richards. /WWE, give me a free BWO shirt for a Punk shirt, and all is forgiven.

I can't stand CM Punk and I am very happy that he is gone. However, this is going too far. The fans have the right to wear what ever they want to wear and like what ever they want. Is the MSG show a house show? If so I see no problem with the fans to bring signs because it is not on TV. If the WWE keeps this crap up then more and more people will will the shirt, chat his name and bring signs in order to protest this stupid policy.

I'd say "Expect the same for Brock when he goes back to UFC", but Brock isn't going to get chants once he leaves, since he doesn't have the "Symbol of the Revolution" attribute that people have given Punk.
Also, Vince is an idiot. The more he (of ALL people) tells people he doesn't want them to do something, they more they're going to do it, just to spite him.
The only way this makes any sort of sense at all is if because control of the name "CM Punk" reverted back to Phil Brooks once he left the company, he can sue WWE if the name is said (including in crowd chants) on WWE shows.

Benoit made sense, but they mention Punk occasionally on TV. How are you going to whitewash someone that you acknowledge exists?

What people are forgetting is this is nowhere near a new thing. WWF/E, and WCW have always forced people to change shirts they don't like, and confiscated signs they didn't like (MAYBE the Attitude Era was an exception to this...) Come to think of this, between this and the Neville Mighty Mouse NEWZ, I am wondering if someone is trolling us by recycling 1995 Observer notes (about WCW and Candido, respectively)

Looking back at what I said earlier, I get the feeling that it's that every time "CM Punk" is said, or his name appears on a sign in the crowd, WWE has to pay him royalties. Which they obviously don't want to do.
Now that he's gone, WWE no longer has license to use or say the name "CM Punk".

I get more convinced that WWE is run by a bunch of prepubescents with each passing day.

You guys need to think of the positives. Where a CM Punk Shirt and they'll give a shirt for free if you change!

Is it weird that just about every guy that a major run with the WWWF/WWF/WWE Title always have a falling out with the company?

Like why? How is CM Punk merchandise at the arenas a detriment to the product? Do they think this will somehow make people forget about him? This just reeks of being petty for the sake of being petty.

I'm not really sure how that works, but I thought the VOD stuff was similar to using footage of someone on a DVD royalty-wise.
