I dig Schreiber's work. So I'm interested to see how(or even if) this plays out.

I can only assume this will be a loosely based on a true story type deal since they probably won't be able to use alot of the names or likenesses.

I can't see this being anything but a train wreck if this is real. No one knows enough of what happened in that house for it to have anywhere near a satisfactory narrative, and actors appearing as known wrestlers, most of whom are still alive is gonna look goofy as all hell.

I hope it's like the Jesse Ventura Story, and full of hilarious mistakes.

If they will use the same cast from that Chyna porno, I'll donate to a kickstarter. It would turn out to be a dark comedy though.

I hope it's like the Jesse Ventura Story, and full of hilarious mistakes. I want random stuff like Colonel Parker being the 4 Horsemen's manager and the Radicalz coming out to the Shield's music.

Damn Liev Schreiber has been linked to this since 2011. Maybe even 2010

I can only assume this will be a loosely based on a true story type deal since they probably won't be able to use alot of the names or likenesses. Yeah, it will be like that old Ventura biography. Could you really tell the story of Chris Benoit without properly mentioning WCW, ECW, WWE, WrestleMania, the World Heavyweight Title, Chris Jericho, The Four Horsemen, "Woman", Triple H, Shawn Michaels, "Crippler Crossface", Paul Heyman, "The Royal Rumble" and "The Radicalz"? Without WWE's permission their best bet would be getting cooperation from Kevin Sullivan, Booker T, Perry Saturn, Dean Malenko, Sid Vicious and... yeah. That's not going to happen. Eddie was a huge part of Benoit's life, but it's just not enough. I'm unsure how much of WWE's copyrights they could get away with using in the sense that it's newsworthy and biographical, but I'd assume not nearly enough to make a realistic movie.

It'll be the true life story of the Canadian Crusher, Chris Ledroix.
He begins his career as a loner, fighting in bare knuckle cage fights in bars in the North West Territories. He meets a young promoter called Eric Smishoff who convinces him to join World Wrestling Championship, which is in a bitter ratings war with their deadly rival, World Federated Wrestling. Chris agrees and debuts, dazzling the crowd who widely embrace him, and he becomes the top star in the business. Later, he falls in love with Nancy, who is a manager to another wrestler who abuses her in Satanic rituals. Chris bravely steps in and protects her. Love blossoms. They eventually marry and have a son.
Chris' popularity grows, and Smishoff becomes jealous, as he is secretly in love with Nancy, and also wants to protect the top star in the business Bulk Logan, who is threatened by Chris' rising fame. Chris eventually wins the WWC title, and is booked to defend it at the 1997 Survival Series in his hometown of Moose Jaw against Bulk. During the match, Smishoff walks out and instructs Bulk to hit Chris over the head with a loaded chair, with twice the thickness of metal as a normal chair. This causes severe brain damage to Chris who loses the match and is thrown outside into the snow by WWC security, where he almost freezes to death, but is rescued by Nancy.
Chris wakes up the next day in a nearby medical facility. Nancy is at his bedside. Chris worries that the medical bills will bankrupt them, but Nancy says there is no need to worry. Their bills will be covered by Vance McFarlan, the benevolent head of WFW who has signed him to a contract while he was unconscious. Chris recovers and becomes the top star in WFW. He wins all the titles and Vance announces that he will be inducted into the prestigious WFW Hall of Famous Wrestlers alongside legendary stars like the Overtaker, the Junkyard Cat, and the Nature Kid Rick McNair. During the ceremony though, Chris collapses. He is rushed to hospital but checks himself out as he has a bad feeling about something. He rushes home and discovers his wife and son are dead. Did he kill them, he wonders? Was it all a dream? Does he even exist? Was the Junkyard Cat actually inducted into the Hall of Famous Wrestlers? How could he be? Chris is distraught and takes his own life by giving himself a lethal German suplex.
The screen goes black.
The film ends with Nancy Grace doing a cameo, talking about all the legendary wrestlers who have died over the years, such as Owen Hart (who died from an overdose), Rick Rude (killed by ISIS guerillas), Andre The Giant (died in the Lusitania disaster) and yes Chris Ledroix.
THE END

I can't see how this could end well. For anyone involved. Directly or indirectly. I smell lawsuits galore from WWE and Vince if that movie happens.

I hope it's like the Jesse Ventura Story, and full of hilarious mistakes. Eddie will be played by a guy with a Brooklyn accent, and Vince will be full-on Irish (instead of just Irish-American). Theyll also reveal that Benoit was backstage during the Montreal Screwjob somehow.

They don't *have* to use WWE copyrights, as they're not that important to the story.
They could use loose analogies for most of the guys and companies without really changing much of "Chris Benoit's life story". Small bingo halls, the number two company, and "the big leagues".
It could make for a pretty great drama.
Start with a distraught Chris Benoit, shaken by what he's done, sending out those texts.
Flashbacks to his early career and his rise through the wrestling world.
Dazed, Benoit stumbles around his house, ignoring more and more calls.
Flashbacks to all the injuries as things get more and more fuzzy. Injuries, medication, injuries, self medication. Wrestling doctors who told him he was fine and should just keep going. One more match, they'd tell him, then he could take time off. One more match.
Flashbacks to Eddie, his best friend, who'd beaten his own demons, but not fast enough.
Everything is a blur.
As the final shot shows Benoit, hanging from his weights, the light fading from his eyes, we hear the movie's Vince McMahon allegory saying that it couldn't have been all the head injuries that played a part in what happened, and the company did all they could to provide a safe working environment for their performers. One more match. One more match. One more...
The End

I hope it's like the Jesse Ventura Story, and full of hilarious mistakes. Related to another wrestling tragedy, that horrendous movie first aired the same night as Over The Edge 99. It's how I found out

That article in the OP has a post date from July 2013.
A Chris Benoit biopic would admittedly be a very niche audience, and there's a VERY strong possibility it would be done as more of a smear job, and regardless of how it's done there's probably another 5 to 10 years before the topic cools off enough for a studio to make any real movement on it.
