That article in the OP has a post date from July 2013. A Chris Benoit biopic would admittedly be a very niche audience, and there's a VERY strong possibility it would be done as more of a smear job, and regardless of how it's done there's probably another 5 to 10 years before the topic cools off enough for a studio to make any real movement on it. How much more of a niche audience than something like say 'Foxcatcher'?(Which is fantastic, by the way)

My first pick would have been Eddie Izzard; his look is much closer and he can do drama as well as comedy - if they truly cared about the project, at least.
However, if memory serves, the source material was _Ring of Hell_, which would make the film a turd of a smear-job to begin with. There is enough material to make a really good film if a) one took a sympathetic view of Benoit throughout much of it, making it a cautionary tale/tragedy in the best possible sense; b) one found a script written by someone who was either in or close to that scene and can turn a good tale (Mick Foley would be both); and c) one put together a really solid production. If _The Wrestler_ is considered the gold-standard of films about pro wrestling, a film about Chris Benoit would need to surpass it in order to justify the new film's existence. The worst thing you can do with any film about such a topic is to go half-assed with it. If you can't make a blockbuster, Oscar-baiting can of gold from the tale of one of wrestling's greatest and most tragic figures, you shouldn't be in the business to begin with. There's a lot to the Benoit story, so there's no excuse for Hollywood to turn it into the equivalent of _Titanic II_.

M. Night Shamalyan's "THE CRIPPLER", where the twist is that Benoit really _WAS_ Hardcore Holly all along, and Kevin Sullivan was a figment of his imagination.

I hope it's like the Jesse Ventura Story, and full of hilarious mistakes. I want random stuff like Colonel Parker being the 4 Horsemen's manager and the Radicalz coming out to the Shield's music. And Benoit snapped because of the Montreal Screwjob.

It'll be the true life story of the Canadian Crusher, Chris Ledroix. He begins his career as a loner, fighting in bare knuckle cage fights in bars in the North West Territories. He meets a young promoter called Eric Smishoff who convinces him to join World Wrestling Championship, which is in a bitter ratings war with their deadly rival, World Federated Wrestling. Chris agrees and debuts, dazzling the crowd who widely embrace him, and he becomes the top star in the business. Later, he falls in love with Nancy, who is a manager to another wrestler who abuses her in Satanic rituals. Chris bravely steps in and protects her. Love blossoms. They eventually marry and have a son. Chris' popularity grows, and Smishoff becomes jealous, as he is secretly in love with Nancy, and also wants to protect the top star in the business Bulk Logan, who is threatened by Chris' rising fame. Chris eventually wins the WWC title, and is booked to defend it at the 1997 Survival Series in his hometown of Moose Jaw against Bulk. During the match, Smishoff walks out and instructs Bulk to hit Chris over the head with a loaded chair, with twice the thickness of metal as a normal chair. This causes severe brain damage to Chris who loses the match and is thrown outside into the snow by WWC security, where he almost freezes to death, but is rescued by Nancy. Chris wakes up the next day in a nearby medical facility. Nancy is at his bedside. Chris worries that the medical bills will bankrupt them, but Nancy says there is no need to worry. Their bills will be covered by Vance McFarlan, the benevolent head of WFW who has signed him to a contract while he was unconscious. Chris recovers and becomes the top star in WFW. He wins all the titles and Vance announces that he will be inducted into the prestigious WFW Hall of Famous Wrestlers alongside legendary stars like the Overtaker, the Junkyard Cat, and the Nature Kid Rick McNair. During the ceremony though, Chris collapses. He is rushed to hospital but checks himself out as he has a bad feeling about something. He rushes home and discovers his wife and son are dead. Did he kill them, he wonders? Was it all a dream? Does he even exist? Was the Junkyard Cat actually inducted into the Hall of Famous Wrestlers? How could he be? Chris is distraught and takes his own life by giving himself a lethal German suplex. The screen goes black. The film ends with Nancy Grace doing a cameo, talking about all the legendary wrestlers who have died over the years, such as Owen Hart (who died from an overdose), Rick Rude (killed by ISIS guerillas), Andre The Giant (died in the Lusitania disaster) and yes Chris Ledroix. THE END you should pitch this to the writer! I want this to win some movie award. For real.

Hey guys, remember when Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerro were champions of both brands of Global Force Wrestling simultaneously? If this movie (if it even happens) can't be great, then I want it to be a horrible train wreck. I can handle one or another. But I will not stand for them dropping the ball by making a mediocre Chris Benoit biopic (especially when you consider how crazy of a book "Ring of Hell" is!). I will settle for no less than a transcendent piece of art or something horribly, horribly misinformed and exploitative. I always thought something in the style of the "Killing Lincoln" or "Killing Kennedy" docudramas National Geographic did about Benoit would be the best way to do a movie about the double murder/suicide. Leev Schreiber killed Benoit just so he could get eh part! -Youtube poster This movie was listed in the filmography section of Liev Schreiber's wikipedia page fourteen hours before the bodies were found!

They don't *have* to use WWE copyrights, as they're not that important to the story. They could use loose analogies for most of the guys and companies without really changing much of "Chris Benoit's life story". Small bingo halls, the number two company, and "the big leagues". It could make for a pretty great drama. Start with a distraught Chris Benoit, shaken by what he's done, sending out those texts. Flashbacks to his early career and his rise through the wrestling world. Dazed, Benoit stumbles around his house, ignoring more and more calls. Flashbacks to all the injuries as things get more and more fuzzy. Injuries, medication, injuries, self medication. Wrestling doctors who told him he was fine and should just keep going. One more match, they'd tell him, then he could take time off. One more match. Flashbacks to Eddie, his best friend, who'd beaten his own demons, but not fast enough. Everything is a blur. As the final shot shows Benoit, hanging from his weights, the light fading from his eyes, we hear the movie's Vince McMahon allegory saying that it couldn't have been all the head injuries that played a part in what happened, and the company did all they could to provide a safe working environment for their performers. One more match. One more match. One more...The End Swerve! The killer is not Chris Benoit. it's...christian.

You know, a couple of years ago, when this rumor first started, I neither thought it would happen, nor wanted it to. Now, in the wake of the spectacularly terrible Aaliyah movie, I really wanna see it happen, just to see how badly it turns out. I mean, hell, the people who actually care about Chris won't believe any of it, and the ones who are close minded about these sorts of things couldn't possibly end up with a worse opinion on pro wrestling than they have already.
Bonus points if they get Sean Bean for their Mr. McMahon expy.
