It's that time of the year when everyone sits around the tree and watches the best Christmas movie there is, Batman Returns, so I figured this is a good time to discuss this. I'll probably be watching the movie later tonight, watched the 89 one a few days ago to warm myself up for it.
So yeah, I'm kind of sure Dark Knight's going to take this, but I really don't think it's the best of them. Do like it a lot but I'd say that the 89 movie and Begins are better movies than it is and I also probably prefer Returns, 66, and Rises over it.
Though I do like all of them except Batman & Robin. My favorite though... I'm going to give it to the 1989 one. Every single line in the movie's quotable, it's just so damn fun, great atmosphere, great acting... Does certainly have its issues but on a personal level it's my favorite of them. If I had to rank them, it'd probably vary day to day but for right now it'd go...
Batman 89 Batman Begins Dark Knight Rises Batman Returns Batman 66 Dark Knight Batman Forever Batman & Robin
Something like that, though it varies day to day.

'89 is really nice and holds up, though I gave DKR a vote since I know 1989's probably winning, anyway, and I feel like DKR does deserve some recognition, if only since I really loved Bane.

I have so much nostalgia for '89 and I'll never not love that movie but if I picked anything other than Dark Knight I'd feel wrong. I bought my ticket weeks in advance and waited in line (at the theater I worked at no less) and then spent the next 2 and a half hours sitting on the edge of my seat thinking about the fact that I was watching the Batman movie I'd always wanted to see as a kid.

I don't know a lot of people who agree, but I think 'Returns' is the best of the bunch. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the fact that it's the first I saw in theaters. I watched it recently and I thought it held up very well.

I'll say Batman Forever. I love the last 20min or so of that movie, especially on laserdisc.

I'm in the majority: the Dark Knight. I do sometimes wonder how it would have gone without Heath Ledger. He was the movie to me. Christian Bale really wasn't that great.
I did really like the '89 one and the Dark Knight Rises too.

I watched it recently and I thought it held up very well. I love Returns but it's all style over substance. I don't mind that there basically is no plot, Batman's basically a supporting character, and it's very aimless with scenes that largely don't even really connect to each other but I can't ignore it either.

Love Batman 66. A great goofy romp with the big 4 villains of the show. The only issue I have with it is that Julie Newmar couldn't play Catwoman.

Dark Knight Rises for me. I was surprised by how many people didn't like this. It edges out Dark Knight for the #1 spot.

'89 Batman still holds up in a lot of ways and I really enjoyed how Keaton played Wayne/Batman. Also Nicholson's Joker was iconic, not as nuanced of a character as Ledger's, but still very iconic in that this is my overall impression of what the joker is (that and TAS's joker) plus Joker's whole plot with "Joker Products" and stuff was silly, but deadly joker funzies. And the soundtrack was better in 89 Batman.
Dark Knight was the better directed film, but Bale's Batman/Wayne didn't really jump out at me. Plus it suffered, for me at least, from too many villains. I enjoyed it and the opening sequence with the Joker's heist was terrific. I also give Ledger a lot of credit for basically doing is own take on the Joker and not trying to ape Nicholson at all. He went beyond the comic books and found an aspect of the character previously unrealized on-screen.
Its close between the two, but 89 Batman wins out just because I didn't really care for Bale's portrayal of Batman which is kind of a linchpin role for the overall enjoyment of the film.

If you're under 6 foot you shouldn't be playing Batman in my opinion. That's why i don't like Keaton.

Batman Begins. It felt more like a Batman movie than TDK and TDKR.
Batman '89 and Forever haven't aged well for me, and B&R is just... Yeah.
Forever is a fun little movie though.

Batman Returns
Everything about it is perfect. Dark, gothic, amazing production design. It looks other-worldly. No one has ever portrayed Batman, the Penguin and Catwoman better before or since, and its got Christopher frickin' Walken in it.

"Actually......it's a LOT like dat"

89
IMO both Burton movies hold up on multiple viewing, I've actually found the Nolan movies weaker whenever I rewatch them.
66 is really good too though, Forever was "Meh" and "& Robin" is reprehensible

89 and Dark Knight blow all the others away. The former is a near perfect adaption of comic Batman (or at least Denny O' Neil's) and the latter is both a great crime movie and a fun superhero movie.

Dark Knight Rises. Was a big fan of the visual cues inspired by The Battle of Algiers and I loved Bane's portrayal.

Well that may be (I thought Eartha Kitt was far and away the best Catwoman on the 60s show), but you can't blame her for a film she didn't appear in. Now, Lee Meriwether on the other hand...
