From what I saw in his first go around with Rusev people were really high on him. Yeah you can say it's because he was the American vs the foreign heel or because of the catchphrase and people love catchphrases. At the same time he was actually being made to look like a threat against someone and people were behind him. Yeah he might not be the most charismatic guy but they could totally have transitioned that into something. The thing is he lost to Rusev, JBL buried him on the mic and then he had an aborted feud with Bo and then kind of did nothing until his second feud with Rusev. If he had won a match there he could be on a serious roll right now. Instead he lost again and just kind of came off as a chump. Both times people were behind him. They loved it when he was throwing the anklelock on Rusev after Zeb's 'injury'. At the same time, every time this year that he gets momentum it quickly gets taken away. How can any wrestler maintain a decent following if their pushes are continuously and quickly aborted? He could handle an upper midcard spot if he didn't constantly have the rug pulled out from under him. The same could be said for a lot of guys right now.

I just don't know about Swagger, but he's talented and I WANTS to like him. I wonder if they'd ever consider doing something like farming him out to ROH For a bit, as I think he still has a lot to offer WWE although I actually think he may be able to put on a pretty good show in the ROH environment. I know it would never happen, but...

The only way to save Swagger is to finally give him the Biff gimmick from Back to the Future.
You can't just let him come and go without doing it once. Come on WWE it's time to pull the trigger.
Swagger: "Make like a tree..." *holds mic out to crowd*
Crowd: "AND GET OUT OF HERE!"

He would have been fine if he stayed heel and his tag team partner turned face.
but naaaaah, swiss = heel in 1987, shame it's 2014 yet a stubborn old bastard might have (didn't mention name, or say definitely, don't sue me Jerry, I'm only givning an opinion that may or may not be factually incorrect) taken too much cocaine in the 80s and either thinks he's still in the 80s or that the world is

I'd argue that a lot of other guys have gotten second (3rd 4th) chances. And even before his arrest, they'd generally booked him like ass. That was his at least his second chance, first being the MITB/WHC win in 2010. He wasn't booked very well...does anyone ever get booked well anymore? He didn't perform very well in spite of it. A lot of guys get booked poorly but look like a million bucks in the process because their talent is undeniable. He wasn't ready for it at that point, it was one of those hotshot deals where they throw something against the wall and see if it sticks. IT was a half-assed chance, but it was a chance, and apparently WWE was Not Impressed as he languished for a while after that, doing comedy jobs for Santino and the like. Really, he's where he should be on the card. I'd rather him be a strong low midcarder than an out of his depth upper midcarder. The outrage over Fandango beating him actually shows what a big win that was for him to defeat Swaqger. It seems ndicative of a New & Improved Fandango push, which is a crime in itself, but that's another discussion.

I kinda like Swagger and I think once Randy Orton comes back he and Swaggs should form a Rated RKO-type tag team. As much as I like Miz and Mizdow's antics they really need someone credible to hold those belts, and the idea of a pissed-off-but-still-face team of badass All Americans excites me. Hell, bring back Cowboy Bob along with Zeb for some crazy backstage antics, and to get them both a much needed personality injection to where they could probably be the best tag team of the modern era.

I always liked Swagger. I was never crazy about him, but I'd rather watch him than Orton, Sheamus or Big Show.
The thing is WWE really had something with his face turn. It made so much sense for him to challenge Rusev and was so organic you had to be on board. It wasn't the reaction the company wanted so they job him out on the PPV. Not enough? Job him out the next night on RAW while the announcers are telling you it was stupid to support him. Why? Gotta keep Rusev strong so in ten months when they re-do the angle, Cena beating him will mean something.
I agree that he'll prob be done when his contract is up...and I ain't even mad.
Also I love how people scream that guys who can't cut promos need a mouthpiece, then when they get one it's "Take away his crutch and he's bland." Yeah, that's why he got a manager in the 1st place!

How can you look at him and do anything else? How has he EVER done anything else? He has been Biff Tannen from day one and everyone knows it. Every day that Swagger doesn't say "Make like a tree and leave" is a wasted day if he's on camera imo. He's gotta correct himself though. "Make like a tree and leave...I mean, GET OUT OF HERE!"

Beating Rusev wouldve made him. And Rusev would've stayed strong on it too. He isn't "done" so much as he is damaged goods. They ruined him because creative just aren't good at their job.

At first, I thought Cesaro should've been the face with Swagger as the heel... then Swagger started catching on as a face.... he had some great matches and I was really big on him. I felt okay about him losing the feud to Rusev, because they were in the process of building Rusev up... plus Swagger still looked pretty strong. However, at TLC... I 100% gave up on Swagger. He was motivated by revenge, he was motivated by not repeating the same mistakes as the first feud, and he had an injured Rusev.... but they still had Rusev win. That convinced me that they have no plans for Swagger, they're just gonna run out his contract and whatever happens from there, happens... he'll never be anything more than he is, and what he is, isn't much.

He's a midcarder, and it's Wrestlemania season.
Ziggler Reigns Rollins Ambrose Wyatt Rusev
If your names aren't on that list, and you aren't a main event veteran that can give a rub to one of those six guys, then you have nothing to do until after Wrestlemania. If you are lucky you can be in a tag match or be involved with Miz somehow. Other than that, it's the Andre The Giant Battle Royal for you.
So it's not that they aren't interested in Swagger, but he's not 'the future', so he can wait.

Swagger is one of the main victims of WWE's booking philosophy now. Namely they take some reasonably talented guys and job them out to a guy (Rusev in this case) that is only being built up to job out himself. I guess WWE has always done this going back to the Hogan era (or even Bruno before that) but back then you could build someone up without burying half your star roster. 25-30 years ago Rusev could squash some jobbers on Saturday morning, maybe a couple of JTTS types, and then voila, you've got yourself a guy to go against Hogan/Cena. In the case of Swagger, the audience got into him because there's some things that audiences always get into. The American hero trying to vanquish the Russian heel is surefire stuff, especially in flag matches. But you don't just job the American out in that sort of match and expect the guy to stay over.
At this point Rusev has enough heat that there's no point feeding him to Cena. Cena doesn't need the rub or heat from being the guy to finally take out Rusev. It would be like if WCW had done the original plan and had Hogan be the guy to beat Goldberg, though admittedly there the actual angle they did do might have been worse.

to be fair when the company first really got behind Swagger for his big push the man got arrested so I can see why they would be a little timid putting some backing into him
that said, he's an amazing in ring talent
