I watched TNA in 2010 but my memory is blurred. Exactly what was Hogan trying to do with Abyss in this time period?

Abyss was given the WWE HOF ring by Hulk to cure him of his cowardice. The ring bestowed upon Abyss all the powers of Hulkamania, including theme and ability to create a pit of suck. Eventually they used the WWE HOF ring to brainwash Abyss into being evil.

I'm not as familiar with TNA as others, but that brings up a question: If the ring contains the power to Hulkamania, shouldn't Hulk Hogan himself need the ring to be Hulk Hogan? How do you infuse your essence or whatever into a ring that you got decades after starting Hulkamania?

Abyss was TNA's John Cena, dude. And John Cena is the 21st century Hulk Hogan, brother. So, when you use logic, it all adds up, jack.

In this scenario Hulkamania is the stuff the Guardians of the Universe used to power the ring.

Hogan always wanted to do this storyline with Tugboat and found the TNA wrestler with the most similar physique.
Remember his costume change with mustard stains and ketchup stains on his shirt?

For he was Abyss first Member of the Hulk Lantern Corps. In this case Hogan was Hal Jordan, and Abyss was Kyle Rayner.

I will always find it hilarious that Hogan said that in the first place. Willing to bet that he got the fan voting for title shots kiboshed out of butthurt over his chosen guy coming in dead last pretty much the whole time.

I wonder how come Hogan himself didn't use American Made in TNA and instead used that nWo ripoff theme.

Be thankful that Russo didn't get his wish and it was Hogan's cock ring that he passed on to Abyss.

If there's people who benefitted from The MNW 2.0 and Hogan's first year, it was the alcohol salesmen, cause you needed a bottle or two to get through watching Impact.

It was a weak attempt at recreating the magic of that epic 'Dave "Evad" Sullivan - the Hulkamaniac' storyline from WCW.
