Well, how about we beat the shit out of Lizard Squad just to be sure... We should have. They're claiming responsibility.

I genuinely feel bad for kids who are between the ages of 9-13 who have been waiting months probably talking about what they're going to play with their friends when they get their consoles on xmas day and then it doesn't work for them. I'm not fussed but for kids that wont understand what the f*** is going on I do feel bad for them. What a bunch of assholes these guys are if they've hacked it.

Because I could, but that doesn't make it so. I think its simply thousands of new consoles going online at pretty much the same time, and its worse this year because there are many more already established users than last year.

I can get to my PSN account, but I forgot my password, and the site is down to change passwords at the moment.
...dammit, when I got my PS4 I was genuinely ecstatic and incredibly grateful my mom bought it for me for Christmas- how much of this PSN nonsense does there have to be before that's ended?

If anyone remembers last year, Christmas day was when Pokemon Bank was released in Japan, along with thousands of 3DS's and Wii U's going online for the first time here in the states, and it became a nightmare for Nintendo. Ahh the memories...

That 2011 PSN data breach should have been Sony's wake-up call, because they took the service down for 23 days. Good thing I didn't have a PS3 back then.

Plus, there's about 50 twitter accounts claiming to represent Lizard Squad at this point. I mean, they supposedly got "doxxed" and shut down a little while back, so I can't see it being them.

What sicko would do this on Christmas when they know families are getting together and a lot of hard working parents would have worked hard to provide games for their children? ..........I still can't tell if this is serious, or satire. People can still play video games without networking, right?

Reading the updates on CNN.com this morning makes me just want to slap people. So they go down, Lizard Squad claims credit and demands a certain amount of retweets to stop the DoS attack, another hacker group called The Finest goes after LS and claims to have stopped the attacks by trying to get LS personal info into the hands of police, LS is all, "lol wut" and LS claims to have called off the attack after Kim Dotcom bribed them with vouchers and crap. Because we should totally be rewarding morons with free stuff for doing moronic stuff.

What I am taking away from all this is not to go out and buy a PS4 today as I originally planned, or if I do so wait until this mess is straightened out before I set it up.

PSN's network has to be rebooted from scratch. It's going to take awhile for them to get things back up to 100%. XBL seems to be doing all right.
These are likely attacks using some of the same exploits that Finest Squad warned network admins about. Considering that PSN's security seems to be locking the door and hoping the criminals don't want to look under the Welcome Mat for the spare key, I'm not surprised they wouldn't patch it up. MS is also generally a lot more up and up on guarding against DDoS attacks so I'm also not surprised that XBL went back to normal a lot quicker than PSN.

I guess it's a good thing I'm playing Pokemon Omega Ruby right now, I haven't had my PS4 on for almost 2 weeks.
