Just to add mine I grew up in a town of 1100 people and graduated with 13 folks in my senior class. Fellow FANS have already outlined some positives: ( you grow a thick skin, are not bothered by people's opinions and there is a tight knit community). But the cons are really apparent. Want a scholarship? Better beat the two other students competing. Privacy? Yeah right. And I learned to drive specifically to date outside my town, sometimes driving 80 miles round trip.
I have not been back there in twenty years and have zero desire to even visit.

I live in a with a population of over 100,000+ people. I do have a soft spot for small towns because of this one girl. I met her in a bar and she was telling me how she just wanted to get out of that town so she took the midnight train going anywhere.

And on top of things, they did find out a personal thing about me due to it being a small town that would have otherwise not mattered. They expected ME to be open about it despite sitting on that knowledge for months and it not even being relevant to my job. I mean after 5 years, should there really be trust issues? I don't understand. How does your having a 14" penis cause them to have trust issues?

I actually really like living in a small county. I say county because the biggest "town" in my county has less than 500 people. But I love living here. Yeah, there are some people who feel the need to know everyone's business. I just tend to ignore them. Don't get me wrong. There are things I like about the bigger towns/cities. Only real options around here if you want to go out to eat are Subway and a couple local restaurants. And I don't really fit the criteria of most people around here (I don't like country music and I don't hunt). But I just enjoy the peacefulness of living out in the country I guess.

Born in New York City, raised in Philadelphia, then three years in San Francisco, three years in Los Angeles, and six months in Olympia, WA before heading back to Philly.
That six months in Oly was the worst time of my life.

I'll take this one. I grew up in a town of about 400 people in 500 square miles. My mother raised me alone and something other that the universal christian values the town followed. This led to some rather harsh gossip against my mom by the chattering church ladies (she's a witch, she'll steal our men, she's one of them there liberals) which transferred to their cattle raised hulk children that was physically passed on to me rather frequently. Also, whenever something came up involving the county, such as land disputes, the outside parties were more willing to listen to the upstanding church community over the crazy mountain witch, even if they were lying their bloody asses off. Long story short, the idle chatter of bored housewives can lead to real world problems.

My town's rather small and there's a lot of 'did you hear about so-and-so?' talks going around all the time. But, how small is my town?
My town is so small that the zip code has a DECIMAL!
My town is so small, the local diner closes at 11:30 so the staff can go home for lunch.

I grew up in a small town like that. Much prefer living now in the major metropolitan of L.A. where you never see the same person out twice unless you try.

There's only one member of the town's NA chapter and he's strung out on ranch dressing. #carlinisms

My mom is a waitress at our small town's cafe. I think that says enough.

I live in a small town in rural east Tennessee. Over the years, the things that have made their way back to me include:
Drug addict. Drug dealer. Former patient in a mental hospital. Devil worshiper. Killer.
None of which are true.
I deal with it by not giving the slightest bit of a damn. Things have gone on the same as always for me, and after a while, the ridiculous stories seemed to peter out.

My mom called 9/11 once and the operator had to get a map. The restaurant was shut down for lack of business and became a feed store.
