Never saw any Hobbit movies. I'll still go to the grave saying Revenge of the Sith is the best Star Wars movie. Even as someone that grew up with the OT, I agree. Apart from "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" it's a damn good film. And while I like all the Srat Wars films except Episode 1 this is the best in my opinion.

The Hobbit's worst sin is that it's bloated. The purpose of it's trilogy was set up background for LoTR and it mostly succeeds on that front. The Star Wars Prequels was meant to show the tragic downfall of Anakin. Anakin is one of the worst film protagonists of all time.
So yeah, the Star Wars PT is easily the worst.

To paraphrase Bilbo from The Lord of the Rings book and film, the three Hobbit films are stretched like butter scraped over too much bread. Still, I enjoyed them more than the Star Wars prequels, though I did enjoy Revenge of the Sith. Still, there's still Phantom and Clones.

The Hobbit films actually have workable scripts, direction, acting, and serve a purpose in terms of setting up the original trilogy. Too long, maybe, though at least a lot of the extra material came out of the Lord of the Rings appendices and bits of the Silmarillion.
The Star Wars prequels are horrendous.
Not even a contest.

One can save the Hobbit films with editing.
The SW prequels? Well, that's gonna take a miracle.

One can save the Hobbit films with editing. The SW prequels? Well, that's gonna take a miracle. I think you could save the Star Wars prequels if you get someone good to dub over Anakin's lines. I mean, they'll still suck, but they won't be nearly as horrendous. Anakin was clearly the worst part of it, by far. The action scenes were great, and after the first movie, Jar Jar was irrelevant, which helped a lot. To save the Hobbit, you'd have to cut out 2/3 of the trilogy. Yeah, if we bag on dwarves for being unmemorable in the movie... if I recall a couple of them might only have 1 or 2 lines total in the book. Thorin and Balin are about the one two dwarves that say anything meaningful. Some of the character development in the original book is limited to the color of their hood and what instrument they played. It's true, and if Tolkien had remained true book (which would have made it a 2-3 hour movie, probably), then it'd be completely valid. But given that he stretched that 2-3 hour movie into 9 hours, maybe he could have put some of the creative juices that were spent shoving his own mary sue elves into the story and spent it developing Dwarves other than Thorin and Fili (or was it Kili?), who really just seemed like a plot device to get the elves more involved in the story than they should have been. Instead, he pretty much went out of his way to make them all bumbling doofuses in the first two movies, so he could show us how awesome the elves were yet again.

I saw the title and thought; The Hobbit better not be on this list. The Hobbit works well. Very well. As it's own thing and a companion piece. IS there too much cgi? Yes. Does it ruin the story? No. Not at all. I was a big fan of the (seemingly failed) 64 frames per second imax 3d.
The problem is that it was split into three movies. That was a studio decision. The over abundance of cgi we have learned was a studio decision.
The things people bitch about Star Wars, were all Lucas decisions.

The Star Wars prequels pretty much made me lose interest in Star Wars. I don't even feel the need to watch the originals, nor does the new movie do anything in terms of get me excited for a new direction.
The Star Wars movies, much like Indiana Jones were a product of their time and didn't need to be resurrected 100 times.
The Hobbit movies are getting a huge pass from me since I haven't seen them but I didn't like the LOTR movies to begin with.

The Hobbit movies are getting a huge pass from me since I haven't seen them but I didn't like the LOTR movies to begin with. According to Viggo Mortensen, Jackson started to get CGI happy after the first LotR movie, so I'm not willing to absolve him of the CGI this time, and it's even more noticeable with how... cartoonish it looks compared to LotR. But even then, if the question is the worse director, then Lucas wins absolutely hands down, with no question at all on my part. Which is a big reason why the Hobbit is so much more frustrating of a movie series to me, since I know Jackson can do better, he can actually make a movie trilogy and make each part work on it's own.

I guess in the broader sense the Hobbit movies at least when it comes to viewing the LOTR trilogy are ultimately pretty harmless. Nothing about them really hampers or lessens the events of the later stories. One could even see the Legolas/Gimli friendship growing from the former understanding how Tauriel grew to appreciate a dwarf like Kili. Frodo seeing the possibility of redemption in Gollum despite the creature's greed could also nicely parallel how Bilbo saw the same in Thorin. But even if one disregards both, at worst the Hobbit trilogy does nothing.
The SW prequels on the other hand diminish the Jedi, lessens the threat/tragedy of Vader, and turns Obi-Wan into a somewhat oblivious Jedi Master who apparently has a very liberal definition of the term "good friend".

That's something that Redlettermedia had mentioned before. Anakin and Obi Wan were supposed to good friends, but we never saw them bond the way we did with Luke and Han. In fact, they seem to be at odds whenever they're together or the other person's name is mentioned.
That's just one of the many issues with that movie..and yes Sith absolutely sucked too. I don't know how people can argue between that and Clones because they felt an awfully a lot alike. I don't care if Sith was darker simply because the inconsistencies and dumb plot made me bored the entire time.
And the lightsaber fight between Obi and Anakin was over indulgent and the only way to make it epic to me would have been to develop a stronger story between the two to begin with. Since that wasn't there, then having the fight be long for "epicness" was a farce. Sorry Lucas, but your mindtricks don't work on me...I only regret you got my money two times too many.

I could see how the Star Wars prequels could really turn some people off. I could see how introducing the idea of the Midi-chlorians and that the Storm Troopers are clones of the same person could take away from some people's enjoyment of the older films. Perhaps a fan of the original trilogy preferred to think of the Storm Troopers as different individual humans.
Something I did like from the prequel films was the idea of the Sith Lord and the apprentice, as well as the old legend (backstory) that Palpatine tells Anakin.

Stormtroopers and Clone Troopers are different. The Stormtroopers of the original trilogy are all conscripts since the clones have short lifespans and the Kaminoans stopped making them.
The only known remaining clone of Jango Fett by the OT timeline is Boba Fett, as he didn't have any genetic modifications to make him age faster.

Hell I just saw the Fellowship again yesterday after finishing Battle of the Five Armies(again), and now the Fellowship makes even more sense to me, because they kept throwing out all these references to the events of The Hobbit that flew over my head the previous times I saw the Fellowship, because I never read The Hobbit.

I got 20 minutes through one Hobbit movie and even I feel like this discussion is preposterous. The Hobbit films were sorta disappointing follow-ups that lots of people loved regardless. The Star Wars prequels were the STAR WARS PREQUELS.

Hmm.... I have to go with Star Wars since overall it was a much, much bigger let down than the Hobbit films.
I'd like to see the Star Wars prequels remade and I can't say the same about the Hobbit movies.
Someone making a fan edit to remove the LotR related stuff? Yes please. A full remake of the Hobbit? I don't think that's needed since the actors were awesome and besides the films being bloated the overuse of CGI is my only problem with the Hobbit films. I'd actually like to see Peter Jackson edit them down and release it as some kind of special edit. That would sell movie DVDs/blu rays and hollywood always wants our money.

Good god, Star Wars.
How is this even in debate?!
Sure, The Hobbit is stretched out too thin, and unnecessarily written as another epic. But at least the movies are still decent at worst.
